If its blinking, turn it on till it goes solid, shut it off, repeat this again, then on the third, attempt to start it, worked on a GM, give it a whirl.
Sounds like you might need a dealer to reset it, there is a security lockout on your starter that recognizes only the chip on your key and it sounds like the computer thinks it is being stolen. Im sure I chopped that up but thats what I got from my friend at the dealer, call your local and see what they gots for ya!
Try locking the doors, then use the key to unlock the drivers door….this is how Chryslers are done.

My malibu does that. I have to turn the key to the on position for 10 or 15 minutes and wait. After that time the light goes off. It starts then. That dang light always comes on when I’m in a hurry. I’m sure it’s probably different seeing is how its a Ford product.

Ironic, to the best of my knowledge Chrystler just recalled some of their vehicles for the same issue as Toyota…

How many internal memos did they find at Chrysler, bragging how they blamed it on floor mats & saved millons ???!!!! In case you missed my previous posts, all manu’s have recalls, not all try to deny issues and sweep them under the rug, like Toyoda….

Could not agree more…RR
I don’t think a stuck accelerator on a Caliber is a safety issue. That has to be one of the most underpowered vehicle’s I’ve ever driven. I had one as a rental last week and when I crushed the pedal, it made lots of noise, but sure wasn’t in a big hurry to go anywhere:)…….

Just like the Corolla that “throws” you back in the seat !!! Next time you rent a car, get a Corolla and drive it like it is rented/stolen…. then report back ( and you surely haven’t tried a PRIUS yet )Did you keep the accelerator down for countless miles on the Caliber, like the yodas do ???

Don’t get me wrong. I’m certainly not trying to glorify Toyota in any way; I just thought I’d share my experience with the Caliber. It kind of struck me funny when hearing of a sticky gas pedal on a Caliber being a saftey issue after being in disbelief all last week that the Caliber could be that unresponsive. Not trying to rip any manufacturer, just trying to make a funny.
Oh…. I did think it was funny !!! The Caliber definitely is not gonna set any 1/4 mile records….. now the SRT Edition

Rod-man, try the second key. I’ve seen it often in both Ford and GM; faulty keys/
Rodman, Try another key if you have one.
I got stuck with a caliber rental could quite figure it out, then I realized it must have a cvt, so you’d hit the gas and the engine would crank up and “wait” for the tranny to catch up like a sled…. that car did have issues overall it wasnt really all that bad, imho. btw this is when my rav4 had warranty work done on the water pump, 40K….

I traded in a chevy truck with that same problem, what till it takes up to an hour.
It’s funny how the dealer never could find a problem till they owned it….
