Louisiana leaders want Gulf drilling to resume

Here is the link to the whole story. It looks like the state is between a rock and a hard spot. Unemployment is unusually high and the Gulf of Mexico oil drilling being shut down has really put a damper on the local income. Not to mention the income from fishing and tourism.

And Brazil is now interested in doing some deep water drilling. The deep water rigs were all tied up drilling holes for us but since we shut them down I would guess there is nothing to keep them here. I would also assume that the income will not be Louisiana income since they will be in Brazil.

Can somebody fill me in on why our government which is SO smart, did not take up other countries offers of assistance to help cap this well and with how to clean it up…

OK this should be good….who did we snub ??? Iran ??? Did Beck or Limbaugh say this happened ??? I can really see our gov’t saying, “you know what ? That is the best idea we have ever heard…but since you thought of it… no thanks.” Get real…..

That’s true, because we don’t have any massive egos in control right now. You might want to read up on a little idiot named Rahm Emanuel and then tell me that egos couldn’t possibly get in the way of making the best decisions for this administration. By the way, I don’t at all believe that this happened in this case, but refuse to give this administration the benefit of the doubt when someone wants to claim that their egos couldn’t possibly get in the way. They have shown repeatedly in a short period of time that they think they know more than everyone else including us about what is best for everyone else, but not for themselves.

It is because BP has contracts with outside companies in the event of a spill. If they took all the assistance from other countries that would break the contract. Lawyers are great huh.

I believe the Dutch offered to help 3 days after the explosion, but heck they do not know anything about drilling in the Ocean, we do not need their help…

What ??? A politician ??? Any politician with an ego ??? Rep, Dem or Ind, they ALL got em…. That I did not dispute, just the fact that our gov’t told other countries, that we don’t need their help or ideas on this spill, that I would like to read up on To paint with a W I D E brush, you get coverage where it is not intended or wanted or warranted.

If you watch FoxNews right now you’ll get the Republican slant on what’s going wrong with the oil cleanup, if you watch MSNBC you’ll get the Dems side of it.

I say we just leave it all alone and go fishing!!

However, it is a terrible disaster and personally I’d like to see more of an emphasis made on how to fix the uncapped well. My guess is that no one really knows and no one is stepping up and taking control because of that.

As for the oil cleanup, it will be a huge job that currently has no end in sight.

Let’s leave the politics out of it, this was not created by the politicians, it was created by BP and its partners in the drilling process.

Wait a minute, I thought Fox News was “fair and balanced”!

Here is a an idea, how about they all just report the news, and not try to shape my view…..

At one time, you could just get the news and make your own assessment, now they are happy to supply you with the assessment…..

Yeah, watch the MSNBC line up every night if you want that. Especially Countdown with Keith Overratedman.

Unless I missed something, the story did not say anything about resuming drilling. In fact, I have not read one story indicating any drilling or pumping was ever halted in the gulf. Only thing halted by the government was fishing.

I would tend to agree with the author of this article that states the Obama plan for a 6 month moratorium on drilling would be a disater!

I read the article too Jon…. I wasn’t finding where the story says anything about “resuming” drilling that was halted….but in the comments, plenty are screaming about on-going drilling. I do know, 3 permits that were freshly granted to drill in the gulf, were pulled after this accident.

And I’m fine with that if we need to find a better way to prevent this scenario from happening again. Once the engineers come up with a way to prevent this scenario, let’s hope those 3 permits are reinstated.

There are over 3800 oil rigs in the Gulf. Not all are alike. (Not all drilling under mile deep water.) All have differnet risks.

    Quick and interesting read here

If those permits were for safer shallow water drilling with no history of accidents. Let them drill! Or better yet, lift existing laws that prevent new on shore drilling!!

I got the link fixed. I would say I had multiple windows/tabs open and grabbed the wrong URL. Sorry for the confusion…

You all are hitting on the right point of politics getting in the way. This disaster is going to further comlicate a already distressed enviroment on the mississippi river delta and the anoxic zone in the gulf. The fishery will be virtually destroyed for 10′ to 100’s of years. look at valdez the fishery is still screwed . those of us who enjoy our shrimp and oysters they wont be available to much linger at the rate this spill is moving. of course there is another major problem it isnt going to stay in the gulf this spill will go global due to the currents. BP really screwed the pooch on this one and our goverment is just blowin smoke .

This is a enviromental disaster lets get folks in there that can help and speed up the process of cleaning this up!!!!! and have the capability of doing this instead of BP saying we will see if this works nope next plan while gallons per second/ minute are leaking into a already high risk enviroment.

election time is coming aorund and the public really needs to assess who is repersenting us and our interests, at this point I havent seen one do that to include the miracle in the oval office … in a sense this a katrina all over again except human lives arent at stake just marine life guess that isnt important to the goverment until they dont get their shrimp cocktails.

had to vent this disaster really strikes a tone with me
