I’ve got a couple of 3″ cracks on the bottom of my 89 Bass Tracker. I tried JB Weld but it cracked thru that. And I can’t access it from the inside of the hull. I’m going to have to have it welded. Anyone know of a place in So MPLS area that does aluminum welding? I also know there are those welding sticks out there but this is on the bottom of the boat and not sure if those sticks would work there without flipping the boat over?

Be very careful, check with manufacture first..If hull has welded areas, it should be ok. But if there’s rivets, it could be a non-weldable, heat-treated alloy aluminum. Just a heads up. Good Luck

It is super hard to weld AL less than .100 thickness and you need an exceptionally good welder to pull it off if less than that. Do not try and cheap out on the repair.

That being said it is possible that the JB weld has contaminated the AL enough that it may difficult to get a good weld at all.

    Good luck!

Have you checked with Tracker regarding warranty? If the original weld cracked it may be covered. I know that Crestliner has a lifetime hull warranty.

This is an older Tracker and does have some rivets. And actually the two cracks are between rivets. I’m sure it doesn’t have a warranty after 22 years? I don’t know what the thickness is but I’m sure it’s not anywhere close to what the aluminum thickness is today. I put silicon on it yesterday and it isn’t leaking today? I’ll bring it to a place posted here next week. Thanx!!
