you guys all got insurance on your rods/reels/tackle? im trying to add all mine to my insurance policy and they keep jacking me around. i carry all my tackle in a big bag and they say they will only cover up to $300 for the entire bag if it were stolen. they say that my homeowners will not cover it and now asked me for descriptions on all my rids and reels and tackle. its not even worth adding it to my policy if there only gonna give me $300 for all the tackle if it were stolen. anyone else been through this or have any suggestions?

Ask you agent for what is called a scheduled floater.
You will have to schedule your larger items.
It may not be worth it.
But check it out.

yea they told me something like that. they said the rods and reels they only wanted to cover up to $100 with a $50 deductible! it just pisses me off, ive never made a claim with them for anything stolen or nothing like that. plus i already have my house, my 4 wheeler and 2 trucks through them!
May 24, 2010 at 11:04 pm #874592Mine’s tied in as contents of my boat. I had to lay everything out and take photos of what I carry. A real PITA but everything, and I do mean everything (including the pee jug) is documented. I downloaded everything, put a copy on a disc, gave it to my agent, and kept a copy on my external hard drive. jerr
May 24, 2010 at 11:10 pm #874593Good question for justin schneider. Someone will post a link soon probably.
May 24, 2010 at 11:15 pm #874595I’m not a big insurance guy. I pretty much self-insure (which can be very dangerous)
BUT, with the economy going into the tank and people wanting to feed their families, I think it is worth the PITA to have insurance on the boat and it’s contents.
Shop it around a bit, including the truck, car, home, etc and I suspect you will find some pretty nice prices out there. The insurance guys aren’t doing any better than the rest of us. Lots of cancellations now.
May 24, 2010 at 11:22 pm #874599I go through Foremost insurance and have coverage on my boat and my personal belongings. I pay $28.18 per month and that covers a $15,000 dollar policy on my boat with a $100 dollar deductable and $15,000 on personal property in the boat (rods, reels, tackle, depth finders, and any other gear). That is also a $100 dollar deductable. Let me know if you would like to give my guy a shot and I will post his info. I started my policy and approx 18 days later I had both of my depth finders stolen off my boat while at a gas station. I had the check with in 5 days. It happened on monday morn and I had the check in the mail and on my way to get my new stuff on friday. He is hands down the best insurance guy and company I have ever dealt with.

FishingFoolPosts: 54May 25, 2010 at 1:36 am #874648I have a policy on my musky lures.I covers all lures and equipment. If it gets taken from my boat, truck or my home it’s covered. The worst part was to identify all the lured and price them out…It’s through State Farm.Well worth it,never know when someone will want the stuff more than you.
John SchultzInactivePortage, WIPosts: 3309May 25, 2010 at 3:56 am #874715I have all my gear insured for $10,000. It is part of my boat policy with Angler’s Advantage. I used to have MetLife covering my boat, but it concerned me a bit that they couldn’t figure out how to list a kicker motor on my policy and listed it as a trailer. AA was a little more expensive, but I feel a lot more comfortable with them. As BK said, Justin Schneider is only a PM away, and I have to say, he is easy to work with. Haven’t made a claim, but just from my experience so far, I’m sure that will be as positive an experience as an insurance claim can be if I ever need to make a claim.
