Ok, you have to forgive me as I have never fished in MN, WI, etc. When you guys refer to “Opener” is that really the opening day that you can fish for walleye? Is there a season in MN/WI like hunting seasons?

I’ve heard the term for years and years, and just assumed that was the case. Just thought I would ask.

Yes. Basically fishing opener refers to walleye and pike season. Panfish never close and bass have their own opener as do trout.

Except for WI-MN boundary waters where everything is open all the time.

Typically 2nd weekend in May thru Mid February…. then when they are most vulnerable, going to and from the shallows to spawn.. they get netted by a select few…

Well, that’s what I thought, but just wasn’t sure. It is just different from NE/SD so I thought I would ask.

Doesn’t it depend on which side of the imaginary line you are on in the Croix?
