They are spawning. Every year it is a huge deal on the Fox river. Lots of people come to watch 100’s of them when the Sturgeon come up to the shore. They have a bunch of viewing areas Its quite an awesome site to see them roll on top of each other, heads, parts of their body out of the water. It’s always in the same areas. Crossed that one off the bucket list!!
I know it happens every year on the Wolf River but I have not heard of it on the Fox before. We live in Berlin. We marked it on the calendar and will see if it happens next year. It is just so cool to see them that close. If you put your hand under the water they will just come right up to you.
When they took the dam out in Eureka, it opened up the river for the sturgeon to head further up stream. Growing up in Omro back in the late 70s and early 80s, we knew of a few spots we would see them between Omro and Eureka every year.
My son is the sturgeon whisperer. He would put his hand under the water and snap his finger and they would come right to him. At one point he had 20 of them looking at his hand. It was amazing.
