I was out yesterday and had a bit of trouble with my yamy(F150). At the launch it started just fine, after a half day of fishing once it had been shut down for a while(10-15 min)It did not want to fire up. After several attempts, I had to crank it over for 5-10 second, then it spit and sputtered for a few secs and seemed to run fine. Once started idle was fine and power was fine. It did the same thing again later in the day. So I packed it up and headed home. The boat and motor are 2yrs old and I’ve had it out 10-15 times this year with no similar problems. Gas is only about 1-1.5 months old and I think I had also put a bottle of sea foam in with the last fill(40 gals). Any sugestions would be helpful.

It sounds like it was vapor locked. Did you try starting it at high idle? Meaning putting the throttle down without it in gear? Also did you check your primer bulb and see if it was hard?

Also when the big motor was off, were you running a kicker motor???

I did check the bulb the second time. I had not pumped the bulb for quite some timeprior to that. I gave it 5-10 pumps then started the engine still had to crank it for a bit to start. I just went out to check a few things and when I pump the bulb it sounds like fuel is moving through. I was not running a kicker just the trolling motor. Also I did not know about the high idle.

Like you said it sounds like a fuel issue. Next time it does it use the high idle. Push the center rubber piece of the shift lever in, and shift it into forward. Should be able to get it to start with in a couple seconds. Sounds like a vapor lock to me. The heat and sunshine can do that every once and a while.

Try that next time and let us know how it works!!

Sounds like fuel problems. Take a gas sample out of your fuel line. Just let the gas set in a glass jar and see if the gas is seperating. Also with the motor being two years old it would be wise to bring it back to your dealer and have it looked at if you dont see water in your gas.

    You running the oxygenated fuel?
That probably doesn’t help, I hit the stations that have non oxygenated fuel, few cents more, but it keeps much better.
