So with the MN opener coming up this weekend Im sure many of you are cracking open those old wallets and stocking up on the latest and greatest gear. So what are those must have items you are buying for this year?

At 1st I didnt think there was much new in my box then realized there should be 6 new custom rods showing up to my house this week. Should have them ready to go opening morning.

well while sitting around recovering, I have put together 100 with various bead patterns. other than that nothing. opener is my trip I probably spend the least on every year. and oddly it. Friday can not come soon enough.

    Two New Shimano Ci4s
3 Thorne Bros rods, one for corking, one for jigging and a rigging rod.

    30 or so shadlings

    12 splashbrites

    Too much in Gulp products

I added a few new black rock rods with saharas for pannies plus all the Bobby Garland plastics…

New predator and trinidad 14 is in the works as well…

Yes, good luck with that. Some how they are tricky about finding out about this stuff. I remember trying to sneak a new boat motor past mine a couple years ago. When she asked if the old motor had been fixed I told her yes. A few days later she found the receipt.

What’s new is I’ll be on the water but not really fishing. The fiance wanted a casual weekend of “fishing”. So we’ll be joining some of our friends on their pontoon for some “fishing”.

Basically it’s kicking back with a beverage and if you so choose, you can drop a line over the edge. Oh well, I guess I can’t hit it every weekend.

The real opener isn’t until June 5.

I’ve already spent my budget on a new Calcutta 400TE and a rod, but I’m sure I’ll find a few thousand pennies just lying under the couch to buy a couple of dawgs or DCGs.

Painful Wade… Dosent she know the all the fishing we did this winter and spring was just practice for the “actual opener” AND you cant use your sweet new boat on opener. That is like the true maiden voyage.
This is obviousley poor planning from the person with the pontoon. atleast you can slip away –Mark

To make it 10X worse. My dad expected me to come up and TAKE his new boat out since he can’t. So I’ve got access to two brand new rigs and I’m going to be sitting on a pontoon with a handful of non-fisherman on opening day. That’s just wrong on so many levels.

Just remember “the 3 prices you pay”…

The price you told her you paid.
    The price you actually paid.
The price you pay when she finds out the price you actually paid.

Having said that – All I can offer up for myself is a couple of new (replacement) Husky Jerks. The success/failure of my opener will have nothing to do with whether or not I’ve dropped hundreds/thousands of dollars on new gear.

COuple of those Splash Brites. New line on all the gear I use on Mille Lacs. That’s about it for new stuff.

I did wash 3 of my old dirty fishing hats last night. That will put the kabosh on me for sure…..

Seriously, he’s right! 12″ and under they taste just like sunnies! Eat em all the time because they are such willing biters.

That seems reasonable since a bass is a sunfish.

My brother keeps them all the time, the smaller ones, and fries them up mixed in with the crappie and sunfish. You can’t tell which is which for the most part.
