I am looking for a good baitcaster for casting cranks and finesse fishing. I own a revo stx 2009 edition so I am familiar with them.

I run all quantums and couldn’t be any happier with their performance

Randy, how long have you been using Quantum bait casters. The reason I ask is, I read where some have had problems with the gears shelling on them. Or something like that.

Add another tally to Quantum.
May 9, 2010 at 4:54 am #870609I use a Revo S for casting cranks to walleyes, fits my needs well since I only use it sparingly. If I wanted a good one something with Shimano on it’s side would be my first choice. I run a 300 Curado for muskies, would be a great reel to in a smaller version, or a Calcutta digital.
May 9, 2010 at 12:00 pm #870620I have a Pflueger Echelon and a Shimano Citica. I like them both. The Echelon is a pretty compact little number and palms nicely. It casts really good, but doesn’t seem to have the control that I have with the Citica. However, it could totally be operator error. That reminds me…I still have a rats nest to get out of the Echelon. Casting a spinnerbait into 30 mph winds is a boneheaded error.

Since 1989! My Brother-n-law still has two of my original Quantums (I think 500 EX??) from back then that are rough, but still work. For my clients, I have all Accurist PTs. I have abused a couple of them ..trout/salmon on Lk MI, ice fishing, flipping, cranks…they are flawless and a great value for the price point. The Quantum Accurist PT runs about $100.00 I figure if I can abuse them with this much use and the conditions that I do, for an average guy, they will last MANY years.
walleyehunter83Posts: 56May 9, 2010 at 2:12 pm #870647I picked up a quantum this winter, can’t wait to get out and use it next weekend. The reel is so smooth.
May 9, 2010 at 2:57 pm #870664My Quantum brothers come out again. I still have a Quantum Iron that is old enough that I don’t remember when I purchased it, but it is at least a decade old. Still runs smooth, even though I treat it like my vehicles where I don’t change the fluids (clean and lube them) once a year. I have Quantum spinning reels too. Until I have problems, I won’t buy anything else.
May 9, 2010 at 6:21 pm #870689I have two Quantum 600EX and two 600TIs. They are all at least 15 years old and still smooth and working fine.
May 9, 2010 at 7:06 pm #870693I started with Zebco years ago and moved into Quantum and Abu G reels. I have been very happy with both.
I have a quantum KT 20 PT spinning reel that the anti reverse works only intermittently (mostly on the not working now) I can’t seem to make the correct repair–any ideas on how to fix this, or should I just junk it or live with out anti reverse?
