Rod holder location

I know there have been a bunch of rod holder posts, I’ve read most of them. Now I need to figure out where to put them. I have a 16′ Northwoods with 2 areas in the back I can put a 2′ rail on each side.
Can I put 2 rod holders on each 2′ rail?
Would I be able to run 2 out the back and 2 out the side?
Seems like a lot of gear at the back of the boat.

I have a 10″ rise on the side of the boat towards the front. I know the rod holder will raise it up about 5″. I wasn’t to confident that the extensions for the holders would hold up for trolling though.
    Thanks for the help.

This is what I would do….I would run a ram mount rod holder on the deck of the boat kind of near that triangle part and then i would mount a 1′ rail or even the 2′ rail on the gunnel and put 1 rod holder on that. With the ram rod holder it has the ability to move in any direction like a ram for your electronics also has about a 6″-7″ rise to get above the transom of your boat. Setting up this way you won’t have to worry about 2 rods on one rail system and being too close together. My thoughts.

I have Scotty rod holders and use the extensions to raise them up for different types of fishing. Don’t be afraid to use them for trolling. You will not break them. They are really tough. We’ve pulled planers and big musky baits and never had an issue. I also use the extensions for three-waying in heavy current. I usually stand up when running the kicker and I like the rod to be right up there for a quick hook set.

    Thanks Guys!!!
I would like to keep the rods up higher in back (on the gunnel). A few wires and the rear running light are on the lower part. I am glad to hear about the extensions. Getting 2 of the rods forward will help spread it out a bit.
