Speaking of things you hate shopping for….

You can make fun of me all you want, but the simple truth is, my current vac stinks and I need a new one. The one I’ve got now is an upright bagless, and it has a dirtcup that the vac ‘dumps’ the debris into, and you slide it out, dump it, that’s it. The problem with this is it doesn’t dump everything in there. The suction does not flow thru the dirtcup, so it’s not very effective.

I’ve used one that has a dirt cup that has air flow thru it, and it was amazing. It was a Bissell, but it was also expensive.

I know what vac I won’t buy again, like the one I have now. But what I’m looking for is something that has air flow thru the dirt container as these seem to trap more dirt and hair. I definitely need something that’s good with pet hair.

Would you say as long as it has a wind tunnel effect, it’ll work? Or is there something specific I should look for?

Looking forward to hearing what kind you have/have used and what you liked and hated about em.

I know, I know….what can I say…I’m a single guy looking for a good vac. Gotta ask the questions somewhere…

We got a Rainbow, has been the best so far. nock on wood

anyway no bags to buy. does a super job.

Had know for over ten years

They are not cheap, but if you figure it over the course of time it has been getting cheaper

You can get someone to demo them for you

Seen a furmurcial on one that look pretty neat and cheaper

But they are in a business that I am alittle fearfull of

Look at the Dyson line. My Stepmother has one and it is unbelievable how good it works, spendy but effective.

After 4 dogs, and several vacuums, we settled on the Dyson, like said a bit spendy, but they work well, no bags to clean, easly to empty and maintance is blowing them out once in a great while.

We recently bought a Dyson because it was small and light and on clearance. I was skeptical about it and thought it was probably an ok va with alot of marketing behind it. But after using it a couple months my wife and I are amazed at how well it works. It actually makes us feel like slobs with as much stuff as it sucks up. Don’t get one with a tiny bin!

We have had a Dyson for about 4-5 years now. Everytime I vacuum the floor I walk away amazed. I have had great luck with it. I have heard good things about the Orek vacs but I think they have a bag? Spend the money now on the Dyson and you will not be disapointed. I never thought I would ever be excited about vacuuming but the Dyson does amazing things.

We bought in to the Dyson hype 4-5 years ago, it’s gets it’s fair share of use and is still as good as it was on day one. To us worth every penny. The cheapest price can usually be found at Bed, Bath and beyond (assuming you have on near you) if you have a 20% off coupon, which I believe you can signup for on their website.

I am also on the Dyson band wagon. Since my yellow lab is in the house sometimes the “animal” brand is what we have and it works great…..spendy but the quality and suction is what makes this vacuum so good.

    Dyson here too!
We’ve had ours for 5-6 years and it’s still awesome! Clean, light, super quick for all attachments! With out a doubt I would buy a Dyson. Does anyone have the Dyson Ball?

Not sure about you ‘guys’, but I spend my money on fishing stuff. I do have a broom for what it’s worth.

My wife is a clean freak and also runs a residential cleaning business. She has tried every vacuum and settled on the Oreck line. Some of her assortment of models are the commercial and most are residential models. She cleans an array of homes and pet hair types and says that the Oreck cleans deeper. There IS a bag to replace. But I think that would be less of a pain than dumping your dirt from a dust breathing standpoint. Plus if you are a guy, how often are you gonna sweep anyway?

Never tried a Dyson, but I’m not afraid to go against the flow here… Comsumer reports HIGHLY ranked (#4 out of many) this model:

    http://www.hoover.com/product.aspx?model=U5140900&ds=false

At $79 (plus free shipping) it will still allow plenty of money for a few new cranks this year.

We decided to give it a shot about a year ago based on the consumer reports great reviews. So far, it has done everything we asked just as well or better than our other (not very old, but recently broken and more expensive) vacuum.

It looks and feels cheap, but its very light and picks up dirt just as well as anything else. Its been great, and at a great price.

We also have a Dyson and they work great. But do require a good cleaning everyonce in a while. We have 2 dogs a lab and a mtn dog the beater bar has to have the hair cut off about once a month. Also about every 6 months I pull the entire vac apart and clean everything you have to remove several screws to get it apart but works great once cleaned. I thought it felt cheep when we first got it but were going on 4 years now and my wife dropped it down the stairs once. I vaccumed up sheetrock once I dont recommend using it for a shop vac. It took me like 2 hours to get all the parts cleaned.

My Wife bought a Rainbow a couple years ago and I was TICKED to say the least. In the end, I would not buy anything else!! It cleans amazingly well and I am amazed everytime to see the junk that it picks up. Since you are using water as a filter, there is literally no dust in the air, unlike bag type vacumes. They sell at as a air purification system and after owning it, I beleive they are correct. Our house is 1/2 as dusty since we started running it. Rainbow all the way!

before you buy the vac you need to find a lady to run it…

on a more serious note we’ve burned up a couple Hoovers and I’m still quite a few dollars ahead…. but dam those dyson’s look sweet on the infomercials…..

Ya, tell me about it. Anyone here help me with that too?

Thanks for all the info, guys. I really appreciate it. To be completely honest, the only Dyson I’ve heard of was the WR for the Tenn Titans. You guys really seem to like those vacs.
The one that I’ve had experience before is right HERE.
It works like a dream and has been very durable. Just wish it was mine and I wouldn’t be in this situation. I’m sorta wavering towards getting that one just because it’s a known quality and I know what I’d be getting. But I really wanted to hear what you guys had to say. Looks like I’ve got some decision making to do. I hate to spend this $$ on this thing when hot-n-tots are on sale at a certain retailer, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.

I got a refurbished Dyson DC17 a couple months ago for $250. Comes with a two year warranty from Dyson. I got the ‘normal’ Dyson and bought the turbo brush separate for half the price. I don’t really have the need for the other attachments that come with the ‘animal’ version.

    Overstock

I got the turbo brush at ecost.com but it doesn’t look like they have anymore.
