The good news is I found a cleaner that worked AMAZING!!!!

I also changed the pads out this weekend with a “high end” ceramic pad. I’ll be interested to see if the dust issue goes away over upcoming weeks.

BTW, changing the pads in a 2008 Ford was the easiest I’ve ever done. Took me longer to get the wheels off then to replace the pads.

We use two F-150s for tending the traps with water tanks in them. The trucks are overloaded with a 1600lb loads in them and we are always running behind although we have never had a truck get dirty front rims…actually it is about the only problem we have not had with those Fords.

But I do see it when I go to the cities; I always thought city guys just didn’t wash their trucks.

I wonder why it happens to trucks running the metro traffic under normal loads and does not happen to us running heavy loads and driving hard in the rural areas. Do the brakes stay hot from more frequent use in the city creating more dust or shedding from the pad?

Interesting observation. I’ll have to see if the old man has the issue much on his two Fords. My only thought may be due to the terrain you are navigating, the dust is rubbed off in the muck/mud/field??

My brother-in-law has an 09, but I guarantee he doesn’t have the issue because the wheels never get clean enough for dust to adhere to the rim. Farmers…..

Maybe you drive at a higher average speed than the metro people and the wind from that higher speed helps keeps the dust from settling on the rims????

Soap and water cleaned my front wheels.

Ceramic pads will warp the rotors. It happened to a friend of mine.

I figure washing my wheels every once in a while is cheeper than replacing warped rotors.

A friend of mine warped his rotors with semi-metallic pads, does that mean those are no good as well?

On my previous F150 I went to ceramic pads. I did not like these brake pads, especially when the truck was pulling a load. These pads were terrible when it came to stopping the truck and a boat in tow.

My $.02…best is to buy a bottle of Armor All wheel cleaner, spray on and rinse off once in awhile.

You must not have the same problem I do. I’ve spent hours and hours trying keep the front wheels clean. Soap and water wouldn’t even begin to work. My wheels are the chromed alumimum.

I talked to multiple parts stores and two different Ford service shops. All stated that going ceramic will not warp the rotors. I guess time will tell.

Heat warps rotors, that and the cooling of them. Give me any vehicle, with any pad, I can warp the rotors SEVERLY in 10 minutes….

That could be, always a good coating of gravel dust on the truck; of course it is at the carwash right now…should stop raining anytime now.
