Box of cash on your truck hood

Leaving your tackle, electronics, rods in your boat is just like leaving a box of cash on your hood.

Crime is growing as people get desperate for money. Grabbing stuff out of a boat is just plain easy money for these people. Don’t be lazy. Don’t give some sleazeball the chance to ruin your opener or your whole season because you didn’t take 10 minutes to get your stuff taken care of.

It’s your responsibility to take care of your stuff. Lets not be reading posts of members getting ripped off this year.

yeah im always leary of going into somewhere with no one watching the boat. but usually have someone stay in the truck to watch. i also lock my truck at gas stations and when shore fishing dam areas. it only takes a push of button to lock it and it only takes that long for someone to nab something of yours.

My buddies and I were jut discussing this tonight, as we plan our opener trip. anytime we stop we have decided one guy will wait with the vehicle and boat. NO EXCEPTION! Sad when it’s come to this, but 6 guys 2 boats, and I don’t even want to think of the value of gear. I’m not letting anyone walk off with even a rod.

I just saw a story on this on WCCO this week you would not believe the number of people that still leave valuables in their car unlocked and their garage doors open.

Good advice!! My brothers 03′ Ram was stolen from the gas station when he ran in to buy something and left the keys in the truck outside.

    He did get it back.

AGREED… I will never EVER leave anything in my boat again!!! I had a BIG Phantom tacklebox stolen out of my boat with well over a thousand dollars of tackle in it… TRUST NOBODY… especially bass fishermen… haha jk

I’m an ex-Marine. Well, once a Marine, always a Marine they say…. Anyway all you military guys know everything issued to you looks the same as what was issued to the next guy. So of course it was drilled into our heads to always write your name on everything. Yes, even your skivvies. A habit I seem to have not been able to shake. Anything of any kind of value has my name or initials Sharpie’ed on them. (Or scratched in with a sharp tip tool) If stolen, at least you have the satisfaction knowing the thief will read your name every time they use the stolen item. Makes it hard if not pretty much impossible to pawn or sell too. Plus if you have to run the SOB down and beat him to within inches of his life, there is no question who owns the item the thief has in his possession.

I’m lucky I guess. Can’t remember the last time I was ripped off. Maybe it’s the .40 poking out from under my shirt. Maybe it’s the pit bull or Rottweiler under the topper?? Gee, just don’t know….

    Good post!

I always lock up my stuff! Mostly because if somebody ran off with something I probly wouldn’t notice it’s missing or just think I lost it!
