Good Bye my friend

Regardless of how “successful” the upcoming waterfowl season will be. It will be a lonely one.

Not that I am big on religion, but I’ve always liked this poem.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

    Good Bye Bear!

She is buried on a hill overlooking the lake. A spot that coincidentally is a stop over spot for Hooded Mergansers every fall. She retrieved a few ducks from that spot over the years. A crab apple tree will be planted above her, in her honor.

When we lost our 2 dogs in december ’09 and january ’10 we had them both cremated and that is one of the papers that the place we went to put in with there death certificates. And yes it was hard to deal with and I know what you are going through but no pet will ever take the place of the old companion.

Real men do cry, especially when they lose the most loyal, unquestioning friend and partner they will ever know.

I am incredibly sorry for your loss.

I’ve heard that there is one animal that each person will have that is extra special and forms a bond with you that simply isn’t possible with others. I believe that and feel that Bear was that animal.

Her personality was amazing. I don’t know if she was lucky to be my a member of my family, but I know I was very lucky to have her.

Sorry for your loss Ruger. This reminds me of my Bear. I held him for the last few moments of his 17 years. He was a Shep/Lab cross.

That is just plain unfair. Canine companions give such unconditional love and yet, are gone far too soon. I guess there is a reason for this whether I agree with it or not. I am sorry for your loss and truly feel your pain, I had a chocolate lab I had to put down, 9 years ago and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do, ( wish it woulda been my ex instead!!!) but it wasn’t. I have a black lab now and I sometimes hope he outlives me because he deserves to. He is more compassinoate and loving than I have ever been.

Sorry to hear about the loss of a family member… Thank you for the awesome poem.
My first true companion Max is almost 8 now and I can’t imagine how difficult it will be when our time together has passed.
