Hello all. I have a chance to buy a 2 year old Minn Kota Power Drive that is not equiped with AutoPilot or CoPilot. It is a 70lb thrust 24v unit. Can this unit be upgraded to Ipilot?

I believe only the new V-2s are convertible…

I thought the 70# Powerdrive was the V2 model? If it is, I believe you can get the iPilot add on, even if you don’t have AP or Co-Pilot. You won’t be able to use the foot pedal any longer though.

Tom is correct, if its a v2 power drive it can be upgraded with the I-pilot.

I am pretty sure that is correct, if you have the old Power Drive NOT THE V2 I think you are out of luck. I wish it did work on the old Power Drive because that is what I have.

Even if you could, you would not be able to use your foot pedal. Buy a new Terrova and you can use both. Worth every penny.

Thanks guys. So if I read this right, only the Terrova has the option of using both the foot pedal and the remote when equippped with I-Pilot? Does this hold true if I buy a new PD V2 factory equipped with I-Pilot?

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that the new ones that come with the I- Pilot you can use the remote or the pedal it is on the old PD when you add the I-Pilot that you will only be abble to use the remote.

    You’re wrong, Steve.

Unless something has changed, PD V2s that are shipped with a pre-rigged i-Pilot are NOT shipped with a pedal. You cannot switch back and forth between pedal and i-Pilot control without completely removing/reinstalling the i-Pilot accessory. If you’re buying a PD V2 with an i-Pilot pre-rigged, you’re making a commitment to doing 100% of your trolling motor control with the hand-held remote. Whether that fits your style of fishing is up to you to decide. I know that it doesn’t suit mine.

Terrovas can switch back and forth seamlessly, and motors pre-rigged with i-Pilots do include a foot pedal control.

Thanks again guys. I understand now. I see in my Cablea’s and Bass Pro books that this is correct. The PDV2 w/I-Pilot does not come with a pedal, the Terrova does. Looks like I’ve got a descion to make, new Terrova w/I-Pilot (BIG $$) or almost new PDV2 for $400 and upgrade with I-Pilot ($400) and no foot pedal. I like to slow troll for walleyes with a pole in each hand, won’t be able to do this if I have to hold on to a remote to steer the boat.

What about the wireless foot pedal for the PD?

I thought that you could add the co-pilot and that you could also buy and use the wireless foot pedal. This would give you the hand held remote and the foot pedal but not the same features as the I-Pilot. I also know the wireless pedal was at or close to another $100 in addition to the $150 for the Co-Pilot.

Does anyone know if the wireless pedal from the Co-Pilot would work with the I-Pilot?

I miss the auto-pilot from my old motor (when it worked) and I am also not sure I want to give up the pedal 100% yet.

    There is no co-pilot/i-Pilot cross-compatibility.
