I think you’ll find most people don’t care too much for the Depthmaster reels, including me. They just don’t seem to be as smooth and last like other linecounters/trolling reels.

As for the rods, I don’t think they’re too bad at all. I use them quite frequently and they do fine. I would definitely recommend the rods before I would the reels.

I have a couple of them and they are OK. I do not do a lot of trolling so I can’t say how they hold up. I do know I ordered them and one does not tighten down right on the reel. I contacted Cablea’s and they wanted me to pay to ship it back to them. It now has electrical tape on it and I won’t be buying anymore stuff mail order from Cableas.

I agree with the above post. The reels will wear out over time especially the DMII. The DM Gold are not bad but for the money you pay for the DM Gold and trolling rod combo you might as well have bought a Daiwa Sealine. The Cabelas rods are great except for the fact that the hook holder is in the side. When trolling I have had these break or bend from sitting in the rod holder from the presser when pulled with boards. If you place the holder over the holder so it does not touch your good. I like the Bass Pro Trolling rods the best because they have the hook holder right in the middle. Just my thoughts. Great rods, Gold reel is ok, DMII reel I would shy away from

I used the rods and have no complaints about them. I agree there are better rods out there but for me using these as a starter rod with a diawa linecounter to pull boards it works fine.

I have been using them for about 2 years now and have no complaints. They work fine for me so far.

I have two of the DM-PB-86M 8’6″ Planer Board A Med rods and two of the DM-PB-90M 9′ Planer Board A Med. Both of these rods are telescoping, I really like that feature because they store much better then a two piece rod and the 8’6″ will still will fit in my rod locker. As for reels like others have said spend the extra $$ and go with the Diawa line counter reels they will last a life time.

I think you can purchase the Cabelas depth master rod with Diawa reels as a combo. I run that set up and use them lots. I also use them for 3way rigging on the river. The only problem Ive had with rods is the butt cap is glued on and it falls off after time.

The rods are great but I have all Diawa reels. I had a couple reels that I used on Erie. I didn’t think they were to bad until I used the Diawa’s.

Keep in mind if you saw the sale in the catalog the store does not always run the same sales, when I bought mine it was cheaper to get them from the catalog.

If the catalog or website has them on sale, the store will honor the price.

    As for the reel.
I have 4 of them and they perform flawlessly. 2 on muskie trolling rods, 2 on walleye long-line rods. No complaints what-so-ever with the drags! A buddy has 2 “Accudepths” and I find his drags are much more “touchier” than the Depthmasters.
So, as far as quality……go to Cabelas, have them spool up 20 feet, and play with the drag. They’ll do it!
I’m buying 2 more for lead core fishing…..can’t beat a $60 combo for the weekend warrior!
