drags on spinning reels

    Why have most of the new spinning reels have the drag in the front of the bail. I know that there is a few that still make it with the drag in the back,like the Shimano Symetre. Man is that a nice reel .

    Personally I find using the drag on the front of the reel much easier to use. Especially when fighting a fish.

    I believe this was to eliminate added weight. I liked the back drags, but have learned to like the front drags just fine,,,,,and the lighter weight is always welcome.

    Another factor is quality control in engineering and manufacturing.

    I get the weight issue-balance thing but……..the fighting drag system(thumb bar) on the older Shimano Spirex were great.
    A guy can adjust to anything quickly and as long as the drag is smooth then it’s all good
