So awhile back I purchased a new Lowe 1457. Put a 9.8 hp 4 stroke Nissan on it. Everything from Cabelas. Link to post.

I have had this motor in the water 5 times. It has failed three of the five times. Motor has been to Cabelas to be “fixed”. First two times it would not stay running unless I was at 1/2 throttle or more. Last time out it fired right up. Ran for maybe a minute and that was all she wrote. Spent the next forty minutes trying to get it started. Wouldn’t even try to start.
Three strikes and she is out. Cabelas will be replacing it. Not with another Nissan though. Will be a Mercury 9.9 electric start.
I will now have more $$ into this rig than I wanted too. Could have bought a larger used rig in great shape for price.

Just a heads up my buddy ordered a 9.9 merc with an electric start and they shipped a pull start and would not exchange the motor for him!!!! They ended up giving him the diff. This may not happen allot but I would make sure you get a electric start otherwise this may make your experience worse! Just my 2 cents

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. I’ve always wondered how those little Nissan’s would work out, and now I know, they apparently don’t. I think you’ll love the merc Good luck out there. Not much is worse than being up the ‘crick’ without a motor that’ll run when you need it! (been there)

Better “up the creek” than “way down the river”.

Nissan/Tohatsu have a great rep. It sounds like you had a bad/loose fuel fitting somewhere.
