Some of you may have seen my post on the Mississippi Forum regarding the battle between my lower unit and a submerged channel marker. The channel marker won and tore my lower unit to pieces.

I just wanted to post that Julie at Foremost Insurance and John Snow of Great American Marine took great care of me. Great American Marine has my boat fixed and I received a check from Foremost for everything minus my deductible.

    Whew!

It’s always easier to handle those types of situations when they can be fixed with great service. Good to hear your back so quick.

So is this type of thing covered on your homeowners insurance or is it specific to your boat insurance?

    Russ,
Check with your insurance agent. Usually, boats carry a seperate policy from homeowners. For my policy, I had to add “underwater” insurance to my original boat policy. It can be complicated, so best thing to do is call your agent.
While you are at it, ask them about “full replacement” coverage.
Maybe one of the insurance guys will chime in here soon.

I have a seperate policy for my boat. It specifies replacement within the policy, yet I was afraid of hassles and some sort of depreciation. I am very glad that did not happen.
