I was up on Winni this last weekend and its a dustbowl up there. Total burning bans, no camp fires. No rain in the forecast either. There have been several fires and I imagine more to come.

I know there are some of our mowing business’ here that are wearing respirators while they cut because it is so dusty.

Its really bad here in the U.P. also…no significant rain yet this spring…lakes are way down and water temps already in the low 60s. The bass are starting beds over a month early!

We need rain bad, I was out fishing last weekend and the water level was down from mid-summer last year.

These photos were taken on the 10th on the Ash River by Kabetogama.

First one shows how far down the water is from normal. The last 2 are taken standing on the “end” of the concrete ramp at the public access. You can see how shallow it is once you leave the blow out hole.

What do you think are the chances of getting all the way down the Ash River to the lake if there isn’t more than average rain until opener? I know that once you get past the corner into the channel buoys it is pretty shallow in spots on a normal year.

Somebody launched at VNP and tried to get to a resort on the Ash River Trail. Apparently got stuck in Sullivan’s Bay. Got outside of the channel I guess. Needed to be towed off. Eventually got to the resort.

Ebels Houseboats must be sweating if this indeed continues to be a problem.

A guy over on WC said that the damn will be closed and the level will be back up by opener. I know some state politicians I’d like to see stick a rock on the opener. Don’t think I would go pick them up.

Do you stay at one of the resorts or do you have a seasonal or cabin there?

I stay at Ashkanam every year the week after the opener. I have been up there when it has been low, but never that low. I sure hope they close the dam.

We should try and get together for a beer sometime. I have a seasonal at Sunset.

I assumed that. At my age I’m not sure what I would or could do if I saw that avatar in the flesh!

BTW, isn’t that avatar illegal or something?

I would be up for that. I will be at Ashkanam the 22-25th of May. I have a white and maroon 621 ranger with an Evinrude. Let me know if you’re going to be up there at the same time.
