Where are the used fishing boats?

I’ve been looking for a used fishing boat for more than a month and have seen about three boats that have been in the ballpark (one in ND, MN, MI). I’ve searched dealer and fishing websites along with Craig’s List and the like. They’re either too new, too old or way over priced (compared to market price). Anyone think they’re gonna be coming available more towards May – or is this not the year?

I’ve been looking for an ’03-06 Lund 1800 Pro-V, ’05-07 Alumacraft 185 Tournament Sport and possibly an ’05-06 Ranger Reata/Angler or Skeeter 1850/1880 – would definitely prefer a windshield and either a 150hp Yamaha, Opti, Verado, Suzuki or E-tec on the back. No Fichts.

Let me know your thoughts and please PM if you’ve seen anything. I am ready to buy.

Well of course you have the IDO classifieds. I would also recommend Walleye Central, Walleyes First, and as you said Craigslist. From my experience, good deals go fast so you need to check these sites daily. If its overpriced, make an offer or wait a couple weeks and see. I bought my last boat off of IDO.

Thanks for the replies so far. I search the walleye and other fishing sites a few times a day. Not much out there for the years/models I’m looking for – that I’ve found anyways.

There is a very nice looking 2004 1900 that was just posted on walleye central. Looks like it has a decent price tag.

I looked on Craig’s list for over 3 weeks and finally found what most say was great deal. 1997 14 Woodscraft Super Fish with a ’97 25 horse electric start Evinrude, 50 lbs Minn Kota, 2 anchors, Magna III fish finder, and trailer for $2,000. Runs great except stop switch is busted, have to choke it to kill it.

I’m curious, what do you think is “market value”? Do we stop looking if it’s over $20K, $25K, ??????

Honestly, it was probably better to buy when there was 2′ of snow on the ground, and everything was frozen. Now, more guys are getting the “fever”.

I think since the drop in the economy, the bulk of the guys “bailing out” or the guys that were stuck with two boats has past. Last year, there were a lot less guys selling out of desperation. Now that the economy has been sitting at rock bottom for over a year, many guys (including myself) have held out on a new rig. More or less in the wait and see mode. Would be interesting to hear from Greg and other boat reps as to how the increase, decrease, or stability of new boat sales have and ….and where they look like they are going in the short term. If new boats are on hold, then many guys have selling there 2-4 year old rig on hold…or they are not looking to dump it.

All my dealer friends say the new boat sales are doing very good right now. Blows my mind but sure is a good sign. I have been in the market for 1-3 year old boat for…1-3 years! Just waiting for the right deal but it looks like the slump is nearing the end so this year might be the one to finally pull the trigger.

Yeah, I saw that this morning. Nice looking rig but I’m not a fan of that particular motor.

When I say market price, I’m referring to comparable boats – same boat size, same hp and similar electronics/features.

Everything I have is for sale, for the right price…

Used boats are a tough deal, I always found myself trying to find a great deal, but the great deals always had issues when looked into long enough.

New boats also cost a small fortune causing used ones to hold their value from the initial purchase price within reason.

    My 2cents.

Want to buy a 2009 ZX225 Skeeter? I bet you would look great in it! Then I can upgrade myself to a new FX Series, wonder if I could slip that past the wife…
    Good luck with the search.

Want to check ALL LUNDS/ SKEETERS/ WARRIORS/ etc… on Craigslist and Ebay everywhere from one site?
    Try this:
    http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi?cat=cpboat
If it’s out there, it can be found.
I found my Lund about 3 hours away in a location I’d never considered looking by using this site. Good luck!

I was in the same boat, and ended up breaking down and buying new. (Hope to pick it up tomorrow)

Once in awhile there are some boats on k-bid.com, just a thought.

As a dealer, most people are hanging on to their boats. They are putting the money into repairs. However, new boats are selling very well. Getting nice trade-ins is a problem. The nice trade ins do not last long. I listed one here a couple weeks ago and sold it in less than 24 hours. Thank you IDO classifieds!
I have a new trade in getting checked over and it will be listed soon. I will hopefully (fingers crossed) have another tomorrow. However, both of these are 16′. Sorry.

I have. I think that website was last updated a few years ago-at least for some brands’ listings.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that a of owners of Mr. Pikes, Explorer, Fish Hawks and similar boats went for the 115 instead of the 130/135 or 150 hp.

That seems to be a growing trend that I’ve noticed. First started noticing it in Florida. With these new outboards, you pay a lot more money for a few more MPH top end by going with the max motor (in some cases) vs. a few HP smaller.

In my case, I went with a 150 Verado instead of the 175. Saves a lot of cash, same hole shot, a few MPH slower at top end. What’s the real difference between 48 MPH and 52 MPH anyway?

That may be why you are seeing what you are seeing out there.

I can see where your “frustration” is coming in. I did a little “shopping” this morning. It’s amazing what people think their used boats are worth. I saw one used 620 for $41,500.00, a 2006 model. Your kidding me, I hope he gets the money, but sorry to the fool who would pay that much for a 4 year old boat.

of course, here’s the other extreme. A 2007 Lund ProGuide 2010 w/a 175 Opti, for $4200. Not for real, but hey, what the heck!
