6 years old, too many unfixable medical things goingon. Man that was tougher than I thought it would be.

I can’t imagine how it is for some of you guys that have to put down your 15 year best bud pup!

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s always tough to lose a friend, and one so young, too. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel. Saying good bye to my pup Shelby was the hardest thing I have ever done.

Sorry to hear of the loss. I’m also glad to see so many other cat fans on here and not afraid to say so. I think cats are cool critters.

She had multiple bladder infections..We fixed it each time but when the meds wore off it come back almost immediately. From what I’ve read and been told, they will keep coming back and she is would’ve most likely be in great pain the rest of her life.

Well, I said in the not too distant future. I had a feeling this spring it was going to be as far as we would go.

Yesterday Sam urinated on the back of the couch. He’s had neurological problems and I think it is coming to a head again. I’ve done about all I could do. I stopped giving him treats, which seemed to help for a few months and give me false hope. We also were keeping the door shut to the spare room where he was doing his thing on the bed. I put up with having to wash the covers and sheets every couple of days until I decided he just couldn’t access the room anymore. All of that seemed to help.

But then the incident yesterday happened while we walked the dogs. I’ve tolerated a lot, but there is no way we can put up with him soiling furniture. I think the call is going to be made when it happens again. I have a feeling it won’t take long.

It is kind of hard when he has these episodes. It is a issue where either his neurology is affecting his bowels and behavior or vice versa. You can see it in his dialated eyes that he is not there. He doesn’t really respond to you and he’ll dash around the house like he is confused and settle on a spot for a minute or too and then dash again as if something has spooked him. He gets real skittish during these episodes. It’s tough to watch. Especially when in between episodes he is a lover boy.

I think he may be giving us a sign too, because he rarely sleeps in our bed, but has the last few nights.

    Well, this was cathartic.

Sorry for your loss Walleyebuster and for what you’re going through mplspug.

Growing up I really never liked cats that much. That all changed when I got married for the 2nd time and became a stepfather. My step-son (Nick) is a special needs child (cerebral palsy and autism) and his two cats – Simba and Pepper are a big part of his world. There’s not a day that doesn’t go by without multiple interactions. He simply adores “his babies” and constantly plays with them. It’s also taught him many responsibilities (feeding, watering, brushing etc….). However, he still won’t clean out the cat litter box!

Pepper and Simba are 9 years old and I truly regret the day when one of them is no longer here. Nick will have a really hard time with it, but we will use that time to teach him that everything dies and so will we.

Sam went down this afternoon. Wish he was here on my lap getting in my way, curling his paw on the keyboard and frustrating me like he used to.

The toughest part is over. Now it’ll be the times I catch myself looking for him that will be tough. Not sure how his 2 girlfriends are going to handle it and the youngest Pom lost his play buddy.

    Rest in Peace Sammy.

Well, underneath it all Targaman really does have a sensitive side. Pictured is Cal and Fluffy. Cal, the black and white one died of diabetes last summer at eleven years old. I miss the ol guy.

They are not handling it very well. The one cat who actually roams the house has had moments where she has been ‘calling’ for him.

The other cat who was a rescue and is very timid has been hanging out under the bed and didn’t even come up last night for her bedtime petting. Sam would visit her in the bedroom on the bed where she rarely left, except late at night to go to the cat box and eat.

I’m not a cat guy, in fact I’m massively allergic, but 2 years ago we lost our 18-year-old parakeet to kidney tumors, fluid retention and pulmonary failure. She actually died in my hand the day my wife first felt our daughter move in her womb. What a day that was. I bought her for my mom for Mother’s Day in 1991… she died in 2009. Crazy old bird had the run of the house and spent as much time outside her cage as in… she loved sitting on my shoulder while I worked.

We have 2 dogs, Daisy and Shane. They’re both neurotic-but-loyal German Shepherds. Daisy is the white one, Shane is the black-and-tan… they’re both full-blooded shepherd, both rescues, and both much loved. Crazy Daize and Insane Shane… our salt-and-pepper dogs.

I am very, very sorry for your loss…
