I have invented a jig and a major tackle company is interested in it.The jig is a little hard to make a 1 at a time kind of thing as I hawged out my own mold.I was wondering what kind of deal to make for my jigs.I am not really interested in monetary gain, just maybe they send me a certain amount of them when they make them. They are a multispecies jig and really shine vertical jigging for walleyes.I just think it would be nice haveing a jig made that I invented, as I can’t afford to put them out there myself. Interested in your guys thoghts on the subject. Thanks for any replys

Don’t let yourself get bent over, you might be able to make some cash. Know any lawyers?

Easy question… do you have a patent, pending or otherwise ??? If not and a MAJOR tackle manufacturer already seen the concept/design, your screwed…

I have no patent, they are something I made for me and friends and would have to sell a lot to pay for it.I know it can be ripped off and most likely will be.So be it, atleast other people will be able to use them.Just wanted someones elses perspective on it.Thanks

why wouldn’t you want to make a buck on it though? instead, you’d rather do all of the work, and then let another company make the profit on it?

For limited money you should think about finding a way to produce more and faster and you might be able to cash in for a while. There are toolmakers out there. Do a poormans patent-mail a description, diagram, and picture of the concept to yourself to get it post marked and dated. At least cash in until you get jacked-guarantee the maker of the double cowgirl is a multi-millionaire. Even with al the rip-offs out there. Killer jigs another example.

I would also like an inspection of this jig. I think I may have beat you too the punch. Lets see yours and make sure its just not a copy of mine.

As I stood out in my shop looking at my molds tonight, your post made me think of how many hundreds of hours I have into designing/fabricating some of my molds. Not to even mention the $$$ in molds I have screwed up and discarded and all the high end hooks wasted to get the results I have. To not get paid accordingly for your research and development would be an insult. Stop and really think about how much time you have into what you have. If it is really that good, it has value. Or, look into some of the major manufactures out there that can pour your jigs for you for a fraction of the cost to do it yourself, and wholesale them to other vendors.

Don’t rush into this one. You have done all the research to get the jig where it is today and you need to be paid for that.

It is a big step (or taking a chance sometimes) that could pay off for you in the end. Do some chatting with lawyers and get a patent on it.

    Good luck!

Not to pull my own chain here, but several years ago I had an idea for a fishing product, took the idea, very rough prototype to a good friend in the business and asked for his thoughts. After a short amount of time, he gave it back and said, it’s nice but not very practical and I don’t see a need. Well to make a long story short, instead of sitting on easy street and enjoying life more than I already am, I still bust my hump for 40 a week……btw he introduced the product to “his” friends and it’s been on the market for years now…….be smarter than me, seek legal advice to enable a good future for yourself and family.

I absolutely agree with “hairjig”. Thats one less friend you should have. Your buddy don’t know the meaning of “friend”.
