    First Welcome to IDO

variable speed is the only way to go

along with autopilot, a copilot or the new i-pilot

and there is Universal Sonar too

You might get a motor cheaper now that everyone seems to be going to the i-pilot

Welcome aboard! You will find this a great place with great people ready and willing to help.

I have a autopilot and love it. I use it to fly fish for bluegill. You can just ease down the bank and lay the fly right where you want it.

    Welcome!

The big difference between the two, as far as I’m concerned, is that the Maxxum will have the Maximizer, and the Edge will not. Sure, you pay a little extra for it, but it’s truly worth it. It does last longer, as advertised, which equals more run time on the water.

If you are trying to choose just between these two, the Maxxum is really the way to go, no contest. Variable speed is a big plus, so you’re not locked into a certain range of power. It’s good to be able to dial in whatever speed you need to match the wind, pull a rig, etc.

does maximzer mean it runs longer on one battery on a single run?

MinnKota claims that their motors with Maximizer run 5x longer on a charge than motors without. I believe em.
