I have never ever seen a paper wasp nest like this one. I found it this spring in one of our sheds……I think they were on crack or queen bee could not make up her mind.

    That’s what she said!
But seriously that is a big nest. It’s amazing how they are able to make something like that. I hope it’s empty when you take it down.

There are 2 things in nature that spook me. Paper wasps and house centipedes. I swear Paper Wasps can smell fear. If I were the one discovering that nest, it might have sent me to the mental ward…

I didn’t look that closely, but you might be dealing with a bald-faced hornet in that one. Paper wasp nests tend to hang down on a single pedicle like structure under eaves and the like.

At this time, if that nest made it through the winter, the queen should have left the nest. If that is so, there should be no activity in it this year, though bee careful!!!

Also if you have a fatter/rounder black and white bee, it is a hornet, if you have skinnier black/yellow one, then you have paper wasp.

If that nest had been outside during the fall the wood peckers would have destroyed it for what was left of the larvae.

You could always give it the old Elin. Try to knock it apart with a 5 iron.

I would just take my shop vac to it. works great. Nest and anything inside will be gone in 15 seconds. Use a wet vac. and put water in it if some bees are actually alive. Then they will drown. Leave it closed for a day to allow any live bees to die.

I don’t want to cross a wasp that is strong enough to with stand that…move I say.

Bald Face wasp…. Have to do a search on that. That is what floored me was the shape and this thing is about 4 feet long.

We just took a paper nest out of the biggest tree in our back yard and gave it to my dad (at his request). He trook it apart and “harvested” the larvae for pan fishing… might want to try that….

That is some wasp nest. I’m pretty sure it is actually a hornet nest.

Spray it with insect repellent. That will clean them out so you can remove it. I think the shop vac it a wonderful idea.
