i just got a new boat and it came with a lowrance x-17. i really like the sonar but everytime i put the throttle down it wont read anymore and just flashes whatever depth it was on. it goes back to normal as soon as i slow but i would really like to read at top speed as well. speed is not the issue as my top end is only in the mid 30’s. any help?

one thing you can try, is moving the transducer “one click” down on the bracket.

if you have never installed one, they are mounted on the bracket, and the mount and the transducer bolt-hole has “teeth” on it, to lock it in whatever position you want. by adjusting it one click down, that will sometimes help it maintain better contact with undisturbed water under the boat, versus getting nothing but prop and transom spray.

depending on how tight it is wrenched down, you may not need to loosen the bolt up either.

once you look at the transducer, you will see what i’m talking about.

Like Perch said or possibly slide the whole bracket down if that does not work. Sounds like the ducer is not in contact with the water at speed. Make sure the ducer is level when the baot is in the water, not on trailer. Generally the bow is higher while floating. -mark

Take a straight edge and hold it under the boat and line the middle of the transducer up to it. Make sure the transducer is level side to side as well. I had the same problem. Since then I have no problems losing depth at any speed 0-50 mph.

I agreee. Sounds like the ducer in not contacting the water when on plane.

Good luck. I had that same model and had the same problem. I moved the transducer all over – Up, Down, Side to side, Tipped forward, Tipped backward. Never was able to get that unit to read at speeds of more than about 10 MPH. As other have said try yo move it down some if that does not help try to tilt it slighty forward – Good Luck!!!
