    Hi guys,

Anybody have any experience with them? My dad wanted me to research them for him as he’s gonna be hitting 70 this year and just can’t crank ’em up like he used to alone anymore.

I talked to Eddie Lyback a year or so ago and I think he said there are some really weak products out there. Anybody have anything to say good or bad and where we might be able to get one for a fair price on a good model?

2,000 or so # Starcraft is what it would be cranking.

Thanks for any help you can lend!

Used to have one on our old boat. The one we had used a cable instead of a strap to crank the boat up. The cable cut up the front roller on our trailer pretty bad. Also the one we had you had to tighten like a big wheel by the hand crank and that would slip sometimes on longer trips so we would have to stop and tighten it even if we had the straps on due to the front end of the boat bouncing. For us it took longer to get the cable out and get it rigged up than it did to just hand crank it. I’m sure there are some nice ones out there but the one we had I would not recomend. Just my 2 cents.

I have one I like and I will get you the brand and model in the morning. I had one I didn’t like and it had cable instead of a strap. Cable got between the pulley and the housing and really messed it up. The new one has a strap and I really like.

Two things to watch for. You should not expect the winch to hold the boat while you travel. Need another safety hook for that. 2) When pulling the boat up, the closer you get to having the boat in the weaker the cranking power because the diameter of the drum is increasing all the time.

Well you could try a 2 speed manual winch….
I have problems with my arm strength also and found that it is fairly easy now with the 2 speed….It’s slower, but no hassles with power cords etc.
Most of the time if you get a cable on your winch you can just strip it off and replace it with a strap.

    Just a thought

Thanks, guys. If you come up with model names and possibly prices you paid that would be VERY helpful!!
