Prop Question

I currently have a 21 pitch prop for my 1700 super hawk with a 125 mercury. It is a ballistic prop so the ends are angled and not round. I have not been getting good rpm’s out of it so I went to an aluminum 17 which has given me better hole shot and little loss in speed. I called around to try and trade in my 21 which is a stainless steel and a place told me they could re-pitch it for me. Wondering if anyone has had this done and what you thought of it. Especially the cost compared to replacing it. Thanks for your help.

Get a quote before the work is done but I have had several stainless props re-pitched and re-worked while I was messing around changing motors back in the FICHT days and had good results. I would change props depending on where I was going or what I would be doing and ended up re pitching several of them to get what I wanted.

Now days with the endless supply of low priced Alm props I stopped messing with Stainless. Every summer about July I change oil, change fuel filters and put on a new prop for $80 since I grind them up in the Red Lake shallows.

I agree with getting a quote on the prop.! But depending who or where you take the prop i’m pretty sure you can add or take off a degree of any stainless prop! add cup for power, or reduce for speed! I had a 23 in. mirage prop. that was to much prop for my boat with loaded conditions! I sent that prop off came back a 22in. prop worked great it kept my rpm’s within its ranges. better hole shot & picked up 2 mph’s. do some research on it they can do about anything these days
