i was thinking about trying to do a ido fishing get together and maybe a little tournament for kicks this summer sometime. i can get the scale from where i work (meat on mille lacs) and either do it at my parents resort or at a small local lake. just wondering who would be interested in maybe doing something and what i would need to do to get this thing going. i think it could be alot of fun.

Not everyone will agree on where or when. Best thing you can do (my opinion) is come up with the event, post the information, and then see what the results are.

I have found over the years (and not just here at IDO) first year events do not draw big numbers of people. Good events grow through the years however.

Good luck, I think it is outstanding that you want to take the time to put something together and get IDO members together

Bret, you’re “DEAD ON” with your sumation, the first events are always somewhat of a trial process, I’m involved with 2 ice jamborees in Wisconsin, and at first it was a struggle, but once established (LOOK OUT) packed…Good Luck! stick with your dream..

You will never be able to please everyone. Put something together that works best for you and see who shows up. Like already stated it may be small the first year but that is almost more fun with less people (less work and more time to socialize).
I would be interested in getting together but it depends if the weekend is free. Pick a date and place and see who can make it. good luck.

One thing you might want to do first…. get with the powers that be at IDO and ask if this is something they want to endorse. It is not a problem to get a bunch of guys together and fish, but IDO has a reputation and a philosiphy, I would make sure it is in line with the direction IDO wants to go… if it was on Mille Lacs and I am available, I would definitely join in the fun

if you are planning to have a scale and all that good stuff, you might run into problems with the DNR. They are really crackin down on fishing tourneys here in WI. I mean these small little wed. night fishing clubs kind of thing. they only allow so many tourneys on each of the lakes.
Now, if you are going to have a tourney in SE WI i am in. It will take some planning, but I bet you could get quite a few entrants if you make it a walleye tourney. ok, just my 2 cents worth.
