Replace the bell sinker with a jig and bait/plastic and you have a dubuque rig. Only legal in MN on border waters where it is legal to fish two lines. Note: when fishing a dubuque rig the two different baits/hooks count as “two lines” so only one rod may be fished at a time when using a dubuque rig.

Maybe it’s not a dubuque rig I’m thinking of. This one had a sliding sinker on it, then a stopper and then a leader with bead and hook I think.

That would be a basic “two way” rig… often referred to as a “dork rig” on the river. A two way rig consists of a weight sliding on a main line that terminates to a barrel swivel. To the barrel swivel you tie your leader and choice of hook / beads / lure.

Most guys anchor and cast them to a current seam or face of a wingdam. The line is kept tight to feel for a bite and you slowly retrieve line or let the current work the presentation into / around the area being targeted.

when you run this dubuque rig with plastics do you generally run a lighter jig on the longer leader or both the same size?
