Does anyone know, if you are going from a aluminum prop to a SS how much should you change your pitch. I have a 17p now would I go up or down. The local dealer said he would let me try different props till I found one I liked. But I would like a good starting point.

When I did mine I started from a 19 alluminum to a 21 SS and it worked just fine. I tried a 19 SS and RPM’s were off. 21 did take a little off out of the hole but only noticable to me. It is hard to find half sizes so it most will always be the odd numbers.

If your dealer is going to let you try one out, take two of them to start and change it on the lake right away! This way you can check performance based off the conditions. Use your GPS and watch your peak RPM’s close! Make sure your dealer is telling you where you should be running at!

Hope this helps and good luck!

Typically going from aluminum to stainless a guy might need to go down a bit in pitch. Stainless in heavier and takes more to turn it. Other factors come in to play, like the overall design of the prop. The only way to know for sure is trial and error.

I have 50 hp e-tec. Went from the 17 alum. to a 19 ss. It kept me in the right rpm range and I gained almost 6 mph. I think I could go to a 21 but don’t want to lose hole shot.

Go 2 inch increase with SS. It’ll be close.

Gaining 6 mph with a 2 inch pitch change is matamatically impossible. Something else must have changed.

I disagree. You want to drop pitch when switching to SS.

What HP? If the motor is 90hp or less, try the same pitch first, then drop 1″ until you hit the right RPM range fo rthe motor.
