Mrs. Koldfront and I are considering a long weekend in Door County.
Anyone have any ideas on lodging or things to do or see?
I’ve already looked over a bazillion web sites but would like personal reviews and opinions.
Thanks

Take a look at the Bridgeport Resort in Sturgeon Bay. My wife and I stayed there a few times and its a pretty nice place with reasonable rates.
Shipwrecked micro-brewery and restaraunt is in Egg Harbor. A great place to sample some microbrew beers and have some food.
My wife and I take a Salmon trip each year to Washington island. let me know if your interested and I can get you a bunch of info. The island is a great place to visit and fish! Dan

I am interested. I need a salmon trip this year. Looking for a decent chance at success (fill the freezer)so if you usually do well let me know. Given the location sounds like a great trip for my wife and I. Door county area would be nice. Thanks.
When are you guys looking to go?
Generally speaking, the kings really tend to turn on in late July/early August. Most charter boats can put you on fish all year, though. We went out of Algoma many years ago well into September and still caught a bunch of kings/bows with PharmaSEA Charters.
In Sept/Oct, you could fish the kings when they run the rivers. An option, anyway, if you want to throw in a rod/reel or two.
Green bay walleyes/ski’s are always an option as well.
Sorry I can’t help much with specific charters… I haven’t done a charter in a number of years now that I run my own boat out there…
Have fun, whatever you end up doing!
Mike
We go towards the end of July, we take our 17-20 foot Walleye boats. We use only 2 rods and we have always brought home our limit of fish. We stay in a log cabin at the campground. http://www.washingtonislandcamping.com they have a fish cleaning shack as well as a freezer for your fish. There is a really nice public harbor on the north east side of the island, we pull out of the harbor and drive half way accross to Rock island(half mile). We put our lines in the water and troll around Rock island. Even though you are on Lake Michigan it doesnt seem like big water do to the islands providing shelter from the wind. Some years it takes longer to get our fish but we always have had success. I have a picture of a guy downrigging out of a 12 foot lund with a 9.9 on the back. The island atmosphere is laid back, they have a few restraunts and a nice grocery store. There are no chain stores on the island. We consider it our getaway from the masses, the fishing areas are never crowed and the island is friendly. The only down fall to the island is getting to it, the ferry costs around $75 for a round trip with a truck and boat. We figure it is a small price to pay for a week of peace and once your on the island you really dont have to spend a lot to enjoy a week there. I could go on and on but would rather answer questions if people would ask them. Thanks Dan
