Anyone else doing the Walk for Animals this year with their dog? We missed it last year, but this will be our 3rd year and Apollo’s first walk.

I need to get a wagon or stroller for Tuffy, because he has a hard time doing the whole route and at 30 pounds, he’s hard to carry for long stretches.

It is a fun time, and if you are considering it, I would recommend it. It’s a good cause, obviously and fun socializing the dogs. It is amazing seeing all the different variety of dogs. If you aren’t going, but would be interested in sponsoring, This is our page. I know times are tough, but unfortunatley, times like this also means more animals in need.

If nothing else, you can check out the pictures on our site. Ever seen a pug with a hair lip?

Special thanks to Jon Jordan’s family for making a donation and offering me the opportunity to post this.

This is great! I’ve never heard of this. Course, I don’t have any dogs as of yet and I’m sure my cats wouldn’t walk more than a foot before flopping on the ground to eat grass.

I did the walk a few years ago with my wife and dog. This walk is not just for dogs it is for any animal the humane society will help. It’s a fun time, bring the family, I saw people on the walk with dogs, cats, pigs, goats, genie pigs, parrots and alligators.

Its too bad they (HSUS) spend a good chunk of their 112 Million dollar budget to eliminate hunting and fishing…

Our shelters here have split from the HS…since 90% of their donations come from hunters and fishermen…they are actually doing much better fiscally too. You may consider that…

I’ve been reading about this. I’m unaware of connections between the real humane society and “the humane society of the united states.” I know HSUS is basically the devil. And they do want to eliminate all pets/hunting/livestock.

My bad. I fixed the title after reeducating myself a little this morning. Apparently there are numerous similarly named organizations in the US. The ANIMAL Humane Society is a independent non-profit in Minnesota.

    FAQ

    Quote:

Myth: AHS is the local chapter of HSUS or the ASPCA

Truth: AHS is an independent, non-profit organization local to the Twin Cities metro area. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or any other national humane group such as the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and we receive no support from them.

Sorry for that, I could see how that would rile people up. For a second there I thought I was going to have to bow out of the event.

Thanks for the offer Ron, I might take you up on that. We’ll see the closer we get to it, because we still might get one because of the other uses we might get out of one.

Great cause and quite fun. You do see some really different breeds there. Some that my vet tech wife had to ask the owner what they were because she had never seen them before. Good social experience for your four legged friend as well.

    Mike,

Thanks for clearing that up! Lots of good info on that link.

Great cause and super easy to make a dontaion. Even if you can chip in $5 or $10 bucks, it does add up in a hurry. I’d sure like to see Mike hit his $500 goal. Come on IDO, for the cost of a couple crankbaits you can make a big difference!

I thank you also Mike! Even the HSUS local chapters are well meaning folks who rescue a lot of animals…but we all know what their agenda is…
Good luck to the Walk and some needed contributions…

Thanks for your post earlier too. It was really enlightening, Googling it and finding out there are similar named organizations with different agendas. Before I cleared it up in my head I was planning on figuring out how to set up along side the route and let people know they were donating to people trying to ban fishing and hunting.

I can vouch that it is not a complete tree hugger, vegan group……they provide a free hot dog (yes real animal parts) and potato chips lunch.

How do you know this…the part about them rescuing a lot of animals? I would be interested in knowing exactly what or where they have done this.

No comments on the folks themselves….

    Thanks, we are about there!

I got a good story to share. My mom wanted to donate, so I tried walking her through it online over the phone. You can imagine how well that went, but we got through it. We got the confirmation message about 5 minutes later…$2,500 donated by Mike’s mom.

I was still on the phone and had to brace her for what I was about to say. “Mom, I think you forgot some decimals”! I assured her I would help her straighten it out. She was apprehensive to do it online in the first place and I think I have pretty much assured that she won’t be doing online transactions anymore.

Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything, because we were in the top 10 there for a while.
