First, I get a letter from the Census Bureau telling me that they’re going to send me a Census form to fill out. Then I get the Census form. Today I get a post card from then Census Bureau telling me that they sent me a Census form! Should I be expecting another post card informing me that they sent me a post card telling me that they sent me a Census form?

In spite of the fact the the census is mentioned in the Constitution and we’re all taught about it in school and most of us have seen a few of them go by already, the folks behind it all decided it was money well spent to send all this junk mail anyway.

    OK, back to real life…

Funny that you brought that up. While walking back from the mailbox (thinking the same thing as you), I also could see as black and white the disconnect of the People & and our Gov’t. They don’t trust “the people” & we don’t trust them.

Yep, I received the card today as well. I had the same thoughts as you when I dropped it into the garbage can before going into the house.

I guess we need to keep some of the “New Americans” informed; who may not have been around the block yet.

I also don’t remember the census being so vanilla. Wouldn’t it help out the government to know how many people acutally have jobs in the house hold and maybe an idea what the median income is per house hold. I would also like to thank Octomom for them putting 16 – 18 different lines on the form for number of people. Seriously WTF

I agree it seems like a waste, but the reason they send all the extra mailings is because they say research says they are more likely to get the census mailed back faster. they will send 3 mailings after the original cences was mailed to you, and if they dont get a responce back from you, then they send a person-much more expensive than a mailing. so if fact to save tax dolors, it is in every persons best interest to fill it out and send it back asap. I think it is a waste of money and the info they ask can be gathered from other sources, but i also feel it was my civic duty to send it back as soon as i got it so i didnt waste any more money on them trying to contact me. it takes about 3 minutes, and if everyone did it right away, we would save millions. it’s going to happen whether i like it or not, I might as well try my best to make it as cost efficient as possible

Yeah but I imagine the postage was free.

I take it no one else got the consumer survey. It is not part of the census but more numbers for them to crunch like how many miles you drive to work, how many rooms in your house, how much money you make, what your house is worth, etc. All with that “pentalty of law” crap and the veiled threat that goes along with that. Garbage.

If you want to maximize stimulous, make them send the guy to your door. At least he gets paid.
