Any recommendations on a desktop computer for typical home use? I’ve had good luck with HP’s in the past. It wouldn’t be used for gaming or anything like that just internet, music, videos, word processing etc.

    Thanks!

the second dell machine down is a desktop pc with a 19″ lcd monitor, for 429. not a bad deal, and it is a pretty powerful machine.

We have both a desk top and lap top. When it comes time to replace the desk top, we will get another lap top. Great to be able to move it and take it with us. Always have had Dells.

i will second that also. i will probably never own another desktop, since i’ve switched to all laptops. much more convenient, and you can take them with you for travel.

and if you need a bigger screen for gaming, work, etc, you can always buy a port replicator, and dock your laptop to that, and run all of the devices you need.

if you know what you are looking for specifically, and what your cap to spend is. i will look a little more indepth for you and see what i can find for deals out there.

I’ve already got a laptop as well which is only a couple months old. I can take this on trips etc, which is nice. The wife prefers a desktop and I think I can get more computer for the money with a desk top versus a laptop.

How about processors? Does it matter if it is intel or athalon?

I switched to Mac 3+ years ago and will never go back to a windows machine. “0” problems, no antivirus, runs perfectly every time and you can run windows on the Mac if need be. I use Fusion for running Windows XP. Just my .02!

I would choose either an HP or Dell. Get the model that fits your needs. 2 things I would recommend is getting a machine with more RAM/Memory that what you “need”. This can save you from having to make expensive upgrades later as software requires more memory to run. I would not go below 4GB and try to get 6GB. Also get a bigger hard drive and pick up an external hard drive to back up all of your important files to.

I’ve had my Dell for 2 years and no problems. Would buy another one if the need comes up.
