After reading a bit about P90X, I decided it may be a bit extreme for what I was looking for. So this week instead I started the Insanity 60 day work out plan. Just completed my 3rd workout and I’m almost positive there isn’t a muscle that doesn’t hurt some. I can understand cuz most of them haven’t been used in a long time.

Anyway, wondering if anyone else here has attempted these workout programs. If so, how have you kept yourself motivated. My bigget fear is this initial 3-4 weeks as I awaken the dead muscles. They seem to be unhappy at this point. I’m afraid to miss one work because it seems like a slippery slope.

Did you supplement your workouts with walking or running?

Well, I’m off to the tub, no Bk you can’t take pictures.

I’ve got the P90X, but haven’t started it yet. 100+ hour weeks (tax accountant) do not allow it yet. Plan to start right after tax season.

I also have P90x and have the same 100+ hours a weel deal as jd318. Fulltime job, tax business on the side and graduate school keep me planted in a chair! We bought it last summer but then with the new house I wanted to do outside work. This summer I will be starting because this winter I have felt like crap.

I have used both insanity P90X before in a trial setting and can tell you that it is not for the faint of heart. P90X is a program for someone who is already content with their weight and cardio conditioning, and is designed as something to get you over the top. As far as insanity goes, I know people who bought it and had the same slippery slope issue the first time they got sore. Some things to remember before you start ANY workout. Being sore is good, and if you are doing your part, you will always be sore to some degree. All the programs you find on the TV and internet can be great for your health but remember that if you are busy, dont have time to fully dedicate your life to a workout regimen, or just want to shed some pounds (the results from those programs are HIGHLY unlikely) get outside and walk the dog. Check out http://www.c25k.com cardio program. They only want 3 days a week from you.

Haven’t done anything like this myself, seems like ALOT of work. However I have a few buddies that have done.. sorry.. attempted P90X. they think it’s a great thing for the first 3 weeks or so, and then they miss one, and it’s done. I’m still waiting for someone I know to get past week .

Kooty, If you’re lookin to get back into shape and cut weight i would just set up your own program and maybe use what you are doing now but 3 maybe 4 days a week and substitute it with a cardio workout on your off days. I am officially down 101.7 pounds now and done it all on my own with the help of a few very gracious friends getting me going…..my program goes as follows….
Food: I cut out a lot of carbs the biggest were Pizza, beer, fast food, and Chinesse food. Yes Kooty beer Switch to vodka its fun
I follow that rule Monday- Friday very strict. Eat 4 to 5 times a day lots of fruits, veggies, chicken, and lean pork chops. Saturday i still monitor it but it is hard to as much as I am gone but most fast food places have good substitutes you can get like a chicken snack wrap at McDonalds. Sunday is whatever you want to a point. You will have days still during the week (lunch meeting, family out to eat ect) where you can’t follow this perfect and don’t worry just work harder the next day to off set it.

workout: My workouts started out lots of cardio the first 2 months. Bike, elliptical, walks, and short runs while walking. After I hit my first wall and could not cut weight as easy I switched it up to confuse your body with a month of more weights then cardio and you will see your body adjust. Once that happened I went to a 2-3 day a week weights and light cardio day and 2-3 days cardio. You will develop a pattern and it turns into almost a habit. The biggest kicker Kooty is the head games. When ya feel yourself saying you do not wanna tonight make yourself go twice as hard.

Biggest thing though is the food…watch the carb intake and instead of 3 meals a day Eat a good breakfest to get your energy, light lunch, Subway is a awsome easy on the go lunch for ya and a decent super. with those 3 meals I then throw in a light snack at 10 and 2 or 3 usually. Special K crackers, grapes, apples, bannana ect. In the evening is when I really watch carb in take due to the fact you will be laying down not long after to sleep.
Sorry for making it so long but this has been the best program i have found and i can still live a normal life. You will still have pains/sore but it is well worth it.

I’m currently doing P90X and today is day 46 for me. I previously did Power 90 (another 90 day program made by the same company). These are great programs and the structure is exactly what I need, but everyone should understand that nutrition is what is going to determine your weight and body fat%, so if you aren’t willing to buckle down your nutrition, you won’t see great results, you will get stronger, and be more fit, but you won’t look like it unless you’re eating right.

    Thanks everyone!!!

Wow, do we call you little E now??

I know my biggest challenge will come from watching my diet. So far I’m enjoying the Insanity workouts(as much as one can when he’s about to die). We also have a biggest loser contest starting at work tomorrow, so just a little more motivation to take a $100.00 or so off my coworkers.

I’m pretty sure I’ll never give up beer, so that just means I need to bust my arse harder.

I was just on Beer100.com checking out beer calories/carbs. It’s amazing the difference between brands. I’m gonna go pick up a sixer of the Select 55 tonight to give it a whirl.

Good luck with the workout program Kooty!! You will be happy if you can make it through the first 4 weeks. Then it becomes a routine. I have had a bunch of people in my office go through it. Very impressive results. Like another person stated…diet is what really cuts the fat. Calories in versus calories out…simple math. If beer is not going to be eliminated, you might want to try michelob ultra. It is the only low calorie beer that I think has a good flavor. jmo… Congrats on making a lifestyle change!!!

Think of it as now you can drink a case of 55 instead of just a twelver of another brand.

    Good luck in the contest!

I like the way we think!!

Thank god last night’s workout was a recovery day. I’m quite embarassed how those chicks can do way more push ups than I can after working out for 20-30 minutes. But, look at the amount of mass I have to move compared to them.

    Kooty,
Great job in starting an exercise program! I read a statistic somewhere (brain freeze moment on the source) where they were stating that regular exercise cuts almost every disease process known to man IN HALF!!!!!! heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, gastric reflux–these are all problems we see being mainstream these days and the cure does not lye in a pill.
The P90X seems like a good program, but as with all, find something you are going to stick with for the long run, in other words, the rest of your life.
True wellness care is actually really, really cheap. Eating right costs you nothing, losing weight costs you nothing, exercise can cost you nothing-rest of your healthcare, including chiropractic, is reduced to nil with only visits to your MD for regular exams and Chiro maintenace visits for whatever frequency you need to be adjusted. Throw in a massage therapist every once in awile and then your golden. Essentially, you become a low maintenance patient—let your health slide and you will become a high maintenance patient and most likely will NOT be hunting nor fishing in your golden years.
Sorry for the long winded response, but just wanted to let you know you get the big thumbs up from me and maybe your post will motivate a few more people to improve their health.

    Jeremy
