I have a 98 Merc 25 that has the trottle/shift in the twist grip of the tiller handle.
Seems like the rubber grip or something inside of it is slipping as I can hear a mechanical slipping sound. Now that it has slipped neutral doesn’t line up according to the markings on the handle either. I also slips enough I can’t switch gears.
Anybody have one of these apart before?

I had a Older Merc and had problems with the slipping handle. My problem was that there was a plastic part in there that broke. In my case it was becasue I was using at below freezing temps and the handle froze and I broke it loose. I called Rapid Sports on 65 and they sold me the part, and I put it in my self. Mine was an 84 though so it might be a different problem.
