I think the power is in the last sentence “We have one of the largest voting blocks in the country and we need to use it. We must not sit idly by.”

There’s no way this could ever happen. And if it does I will be joining the newly formed local militia to regain my freedom.

the sad part about all that is people who voted for obama still defend the actions that so called man has taken and is going to take in the future i.e. national healthcare. I guess they don’t understand that they want total controll of what you do with your money, if that means taking away fishng from law abiding citizens and tax payers. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach that my rights and privlegdes are being taken away one at a time

now that is HOPE AND CHANGE YOU CAN BELEIVE IN

In all fairness, Obama hasn’t come out and said he is for taking anything away. I know a lot of liberal Dem’s that would fight with me shoulder to shoulder if they thought that to be the case. Be vigilant in your watching…be careful with the knee jerks.

Tuck seems to be right-on with this one. Here’s an alternative view of the same report, written by a sportsman with a fisheries mgmt. background.

Seems like commercial fishing interests are doing their best to use the general recreational fishing public as a means to drum up support.

the groups that are trying to stop fishing are the same people that obama suports i.e. using his excutive powers to push this forward. so if the sky is falling i guess i can see it comin down. in my own opinion i think it is a way to control the public.

The ESPN article is one of the poorest pieces of journalism I’ve ever read. As someone that’s followed this issue it is embarrasing to read that BS.

Do yourself a favor and read the article from the Charlotte Observer. It is well written and is from the recreational fishing standpoint. The commercial fisherman have resorted to fear mongoring. They want the recreational fisherman to jump in and support their cause.

Everyone should do some research on this issue. Its too easy to adopt the sky is falling mentality as one poster mentioned. I looked into this and formed my own opinion and threw up the BS flag right away.

Well said Mille Lacs Guy Rather than read what it is about (which is what the commercial fishing industry wants) some would just believe that Obama wants their St Croix… How naive does one have to be to read that drivel and give it an ounce of credibility While we need to watch our government, I don’t think if I blink that my rods would be gone BOAT FOR SALE

millacs guy has a good point but i can’t get over the fact that the government can tell a property owner that no one can smoke inside their watering hole or restaraunt. after that was passed they can take anything away from you. in my opinion. i also think it comes down to the comm. fishing industry makeing to much money, so if you want to fish, you will pay more in taxes, licesnes, ect.

While I didn’t agree with the smoking ban… after a couple years now, it is kinda nice going into a Bar and not smelling the smoke. Another benefit, I never thought of, when my brother in law is up with my godson, we can now go to the local resort for a burger or pizza… he wouldn’t take his son in any place that allowed smoking before. While I thought no smoking in bars would end the world, business would suffer, places would be closing down…. I don’t know of one that did I also agree if commercial fishing is out of control and over harvesting is occurring, they should definitely put a stop to it. I squeal when the Bands get to net Mille Lacs, I would hate to see if it was commercially fished with no control/limits, what I would do… I sure wouldn’t stand shoulder to shoulder with the commercial fisherman and try to stop any regulations…. BTW, that’s what the article is intended to do

Immigration came by and took my boat. They said something about using it to haul more illegals into the country.

I think it would be crazy for them to even think of banning recreational fishing…just think of the waves that would send thru our already fragle economy…bait and tackle dealers, boat builders, outboard motor companys, marine electronics, companies like Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops, motels and all the lodge and camp owners that would be suddenly out of business, fishing guides…and what would they gain ? A bunch of unemployed people, people that are mad with time on their hands…hmm…does anybody remember what happened in 1776?

lobbying for this started way before the obama admin. it might not have anything to do with our fishing rights, but its something to keep an eye on.

Not to get off track but…

While I find it nice to go into a bar now without smoking, I still adamantly disagree with it. Any time you have a place that is privately owned where the general public has a choice to go into it, you should lay your hands off it when as long as the activity (smoking) is still legal. There were laws in place that required a no smoking section with proper ventilation before this was legislated.

Yeah, there is no way he would ban recreational fishing…completely. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the recommendations are.

Fully knowing this, their angle was “to make the workplace safe”…. the waiters and waitress and bartenders, who needed the job, were entitled to clean air. Like I said, it was not the end of the world like I & others thought it would be… if you really think about it, cancer is no fun
