Does anyone know if shimano still makes the 1500 or 2000 line of spinning reels? I have been looking around for a while and all I can find close to these sizes are 1000’s and 2500’s. I realize that I could get by with either one of these in a pinch but for my uses the 1000 is to small and the 2500 is to big and bulky. I guess I could look into a difforant company but all I have ever realy used is shimano’s and their cosomer service is great.

It pays if you can actaully look at them in a store. Some of their modern sizes dont directly compare to the old stuff. I’m a Shimano guy and I faced the same decision you are. I found they definitely make the physical size you are probably looking for.

If your interested in looking at another manufacture, I suggest the Quantum Catalyst PTi in a size 20. I’m trying them out right now, and so far I am very pleased. It matches up pretty close to my older 2000 series shimanos I have. Also, I saw at the Cabelas sale this weekend they have $50.00 Cabelas card coming back to you with each purchase. Somehting to look at.

I just got 3 new Stradics.Compareing new 2500 with old Stradic 2000 they are pretty much the same size, except the spool is larger diameter for better casting.2500 holds 20 yards more 8# line {140} than old 2000.Just spooled up last night, not use yet but can’t wait.Seems as smooth or smoother than 2000 that just had major tune up.On a rod I really don’t notice the difference

I think I have several spare spools in the 1000 and 2000
if that does you any good. Couple bucks apiece would buy
    some cold ones I ‘spect.

Thanks guys I guess either I’ll have to go to a 2500 or a difforant make. I am just having a hard time going to a larger reel I love the 1000’s but the spool just isn’t big enough in some situations.

they make a 1500 symetre in rear drag (model RJ) if you are dead set on that size.
