Looking to get a new rod, main use would be for walleye on the sippi. Was thinking a 7′ ML but can’t decide on a reel: Abu, shimano, Pfluger. Looking for the best combo to use with Lindy rig or jig. Any comments would be great.

I hear of alot of “bonus” fish coming up when trolling the sipp…Flats and Sturgies and whatnot, Id prolly bump up to a medium for the river.

Without knowing your budget, it’s kinda difficult to help ya> But you might like to start by calling, or better yet, dropping in to see Dean @ Evert’s Resort. http://evertsfishingresort.com/ Good luck and enjoy the shopping/buying

I’m able to get a good deal on a st. croix just courios what kind of reel people have found to be nice for that purpose. Price for the reel could range from 50 to 100 bucks. Spinning Reel that is.

If you are anywhere near Everts resort Dean has something that none of the other sport shops or big places like Gander, Cabelas and BPS will ever have…TEST DRIVE FOR FREE! You aren’t even obliged to buy anything…

You have a pretty good choice on the 7 ML and there are practically no really bad spin reels out there… Your budget will narrow the choices for you… A great budget combo could be a 7ML St. Croix Triumph with a 5930 Pflueger Asaro for a little over $100. If you wanted to spend a tad more you can get a faster action, higher modulus rod like a
Limit Creek 69MF, or Mojo 69MLXF.

If you go to Bass Pro…they have a very appealling combo with the Lidy rigger in mind…the 7’2″ MF with a Pflueger President…

With a 7′ rod I would take a hard look at a Pflueger Arbor for $79. My second choice would be a Shimano Symetere, but those are running anout $119.

I pretty much agree with all that has been said… St. Croix rod, Shimano or Pflueger reel, and a stop at Everts to test ’em out before you buy if you can.

I’ve been to everts before, wasn’t aware you could test drive there. I’ll deffinantly hit them up.

The St. Croix Mojo in the 69MLXF is a sweet budget rod. Pair it up with the Pflueger President for a near perfect balance weight. I have the Avid and Pflueger in the 69MLXF and love them both.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t jump from the Mojo to the Avid, but would consider jumping to the Legend Elite if I were to make a jump.
