I need a new spinning reel and i currently have a president. I have absolutely no complains at all but I see that the arbor is a new reel out for this year. What do you guys think? The arbor is $20 more and the president has been tested, but just wondering what opinions might be out there. Thanks… Justin..

I, too, have a President, and it’s been flawless. I will likely buy an Arbor next, though. I like the concept.

If your planing on doing alot of casting I’d go with the arbor jigging & rigging get the president.

Good advice Tim,but as another option,Demo an arbor & decide for your self which is best for you.

Dean are you still running that deal on the arbor reels?

I’ve got a copule President’s and a couple Supreme’s. Not enough of a difference ($35) for the money IMHO, so my vote would be to stick with the President.

    I hope so!
Good advice…I have several Pfleugers…mostly smaller 25 series to match my very light Extreme rods. I am planning on getting an Arbor to match up my XS68MXF for casting jigs/plastics.

Gosh Trev, where are you finding Presidents that cheap? They are $59.95 at Cabelas, Thorne Bros or even online at Amazon.com…Dean was selling Arbors for $69….less than $10 more for a lot more reel.

I purchased an Arbor from Dean and have had the chance to fish with it a few times. I love the fact that it casts light jigs a LONG ways. I have also found that when fishing mono I have less line memory. I will definately be replacing my Sedonas with Arbors as they wear out.

I bought an arbor from dean yesterday and it was $79. Worth every penny!! He also gave two free bags of plastics with it.

Wasn’t talking about Arbor’s Tom, was talking Pflueger Supreme’s…..basically saying that the higer buck one’s aren’t necessarily always worth the extra coin.

I’m going to use it for both casting and jigging and I love to bass fish also, so it’ll be getting used in alot of different presentaions throughout the year. Thanks for the input so far!!!

To me the primary difference between the Supreme and the President is the weight. Since the Supreme is magnesium it is much lighter. For some applications this might not matter but for things such as jigging and rigging I prefer to go as light as possible. In terms of the quality of the reel and smoothness I would say the President and Supreme are very comparable.

Back to the original question: Here are my first two Arbor fish of 2010. The roughie was a giant, and the Arbor’s drag handled him like a champ. The Arbor also worked great for casting an 1/8-ringie combo a country mile at the start of a dragging pass.

I ended up going with the smaller of the two Arbor reels. I think i’ll be real happy with the decision. I figure i’ve spent $20 dollars on more stupid things than that before so why not give it a shot. Thanks for all of your guys’ input!
