    Just the facts…. I for one would want any vehicle, that could accelerate on its own, off the road. You or a loved one don’t have to be driving one, to be killed/injured by one… I am not trying to change minds, just educate them

    PS…. I think Ron DOES want input, to help make up his mind, or he wouldn’t have posted ??? He did clarify, he didn’t want to make anyone angry… and then proceeded to call some guy a schoolboy, who never bought a vehicle and had a head the size of a grape at one time….

    My only comment will be;
    “If what you just said is true, I think it’s pretty damned sad for this country when a foreign automaker can move here and employ more U.S. citizens than any of our own American automakers.”

    They wouldn’t be able to if people wouldn’t buy them.

    They may employ lots or Americans and have a lot of American investors, still there is a good chunk of money siphoned from our economy to Japan because of it.

    meanwhile before the boom a large percentage of gm shares were owned abroad. welcome to the 1 world economy. if you think only americans are getting rich off of GM (OR WERE GETTING RICH) you are mistaken.

    i’ve done handsomely with ford at least.

    Let’s start off with you don’t have to be doing ALOT of things to be killed or injured by someone else’s error. For example I don’t have to be drunk to be killed in my non functioning Brand X Vehicle in order to be killed by a drunk driver in their perfect brand Z vehicle. OR I don’t have to be In a boat to be killed by a boat. On shore, or in the water would do just fine.

    Anyways I’m sure from this point forward anyone, and yes there are still going to be plenty of them, looking to buy a Toyato, or which ever company puts out the next self accelerating, spontaneously combusting, non braking, or what ever other apparent unexpected “features” the will come up with. If that has been taken care of. And of course GM, Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, or who ever are going to say OF COURSE! and people will buy them.

    I think it’s safe to say no one WANTED this.

    However I think it’s also safe to say NO company can tell me from this day forward their vehicles will NEVER have a recall for any issue that could be know to cause death or injury. And if you work in the Auto industry and you feel like taking this bet let me know. I have NO limit on how much you can place on your wager.

    WOW I got futher into this than I had ever intended. I’m done now!

    ps. G,

    I think you MEANT you “WOULDN’T” want any vehicle… but I could e wrong

    I knew someone was talking out of their … a quick check…

    Americans employed…

    Toyota employs directly = 33,400

    indirectly = 163,700

    GM employs directly = 194,000

    indirectly = 706,000

    Man, you were a little off…

    big G

    indirectly? so are we counting the people that supply their bathrooms with toilet paper? lmao.

    before the reengineering GM employed 91000 employees in US. after the takeover, they now employ 61,000. meanwhile toyota as of 2008 employed 36k here in the US. Ford employs 80k.

    I had an article is a business magazine that had them near equal or more. i apologize for having the numbers wrong but your numbers are completely laughable. probably because it refers to NORTH americans….

    or should i say

    as you do.

    I agree, no one wanted this….. but I will wager, that any company, going forward, that has a safety issue, such as this, that tries to “cover up” the issue, will be flogged in the media and by the NHTSA and Government. I do not state anywhere, that having the recall is the issue, it is how Toyoda handled it….

    No, if you read my response, I WOULD want the self accelerating vehicle off the road…

    ford’s products are getting better pretty quickly. i too like some of their offerings. we’ve had so many problems with ford work trucks here at work that they switched over to tundras and tacomas over the last 5 yrs. our repair and replacement costs have gone down dramatically.

    Buy the Toyota. There made in the US. All manufacturers have recalls. I’m going back to a Toyota truck as soon as I can aford to. My wife has a prius and she loves it. 120000 miles on a 09 and not a problem.

    I have a truck with 270,000 miles on it. The reason why is because I bought it.

    If you haven’t heard, Toyota has taken its resale and flushed it down the toilet. And the recalls? Well they will come in time, if they tell you.

    i would never buy a toyota. my dad worked at GM for 22 years. i am currently driving his old 2000 silverado that has about 182000 miles on it and it runs perfectly. there has never been any major issues that have ever cost us a ton of money. besides GM and ford started the car industry. and why not support US based car makers when we are struggling to keep jobs. but i guess go with the best deal.

    SO, I take your in school, driving a gift, never bought a vehicle. I ‘ve had fords for the past 30 years, new ones every 4 years. That’s longer than dad worked for Gm. Before your head was the size of a grape. Thanks for the advice

    Did you hear Leno’s spin on this last night during his monologue?

    He said Kia is taking advantage of the Toyota situation by launching an ad campaign.

    Kia – nothing bad happens when you step on the gas. In fact, nothing happens!!

    I, for one, am not married.

    I’ll buy a Ford over a Dodge if they ever get their reliability ratings up there with Dodge over the course of a couple of years. I have driven 2 Exploders literally into the ground.

    Sad but true: Every car company does this. That is how recalls work… balance the cost of the recall vs the cost of potential litigation.

    FYI.. taken from the front page of NADA news….

    Federal regulators said Wednesday that they had received 10 reports of Toyota vehicles accelerating unexpectedly after they were repaired at dealerships. The complaints have not been verified, but they add to questions about whether Toyota’s big recalls will resolve its problems with unexpected acceleration. “If Toyota owners are still experiencing sudden acceleration incidents after taking their cars to the dealership, we want to know about it,” [The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration] administrator, David Strickland, said in a statement. Toyota said its United States dealerships had repaired more than a million vehicles since early February out of six million vehicles that have been recalled to fix problems with the accelerator pedal.

    except that the parts that went bad in the toyota’s came from CTS Corp in indiana who employs UAW workers.

    I am sure CTS built to specs given by Toyota… OMG 18,000 Fords with a software issue…. they should try to deflect and lie about that one… I have no issue with recalls, just how they are accepted and handled…. that’s all. Everybody thinks I walk everywhere, because ALL vehicles have recalls…. I know they do, I see them everyday….. but how a manufacturer stands behind their products and admits when their is fault and does everything to correct it, that’s how you truely measure quality and dependability. The fact cars are still speeding off on their own after the repairs, should come as no surprise… more than 1 engineer stated, it could not be what they were/are claiming…first floor mats, then a metal wearing issue, rather that it was an electrical issue which will still remain…
