I think it is a lot like the Lowrance 520, and they are good units, it would seem they are much more reliable than the HD stuff they have out now.

I put an Eagle 642c on the bow of my boat 2yrs ago easy to operate both gps and depth finder. I also take it off in the fall and use it in my truck and on the snowmobile ice fishing, the small RAM ball mount works with unit.

That’s a good price on that unit and it will run both Navionics Premium and Lakemaster maps. I’d pull the trigger.

A compatibilty question….if you have a Lakemaster chip that works in a Lowrance H2OC handheld GPS, will it work in an Eagle Depth finder?

    Thanks

That is an excellent prize. I checked the Cabelas web site and I am not seeing them.

It will work in an Eagle that is compatible with Lakemaster maps. The Lowrance H2OC and the Eagle units do take the same Lakemaster cards.

I don’t see it either. It may be that it is only at a particular retail store.

For those of you who miss out on this deal or who prefer an external antenna, we’re supposed to be getting the Eagle Fishelite 640C in stock in 2-3 weeks and the price will be $395 shipped. Not quite as good as the Cabelas price on the 642C but with free shipping and no sales tax, we’ll come close. And of course, the 640C has the external antenna for those who prefer or need to mount the antenna away from the unit.

Wade, do you think it would be worth the extra money to go with a HDS 5? How do these units compare to the HDS units?

That depends. If a guy wants the extra features and the expandability of the HDS units, then by all means he should spend the extra cash. But it’s really a matter of personal preference combined with budget constraints that determine whether a guy should select an HDS unit versus an Eagle. If money is not an issue, the HDS is a better choice, yes.

It’s one of the “Doorbuster” deals at the Rogers locations.
