I’m seriously looking to purchase a Humminbird 898c SI. Two quick questions:
    1. Can anybody share their experiences with the product?
    2. Can’t decide whether to install it on the dash or the bow. Thoughts?

I would suspect Mr Halfen would be the only one to use it since it is a new product. But I would say it would be similar to a 997, and like other Birds awsome

    First, welcome to IDO!

There aren’t many people who have had these on the water yet, save some of the promotional staff. They are just hitting the market. However, they are very similar to the previous lineup of Humminbird SI units and the feedback on Humminbird SI units has been outstanding. As far as where to mount, I suggest mounting it on the dash and then use a second unit on the bow, either a smaller SI unit or a non-SI Humminbird such as the 858C or the 788C.

I have yet to see an 898 in person, although I expect to be receiving its non-SI cousin, the 858, in about a week.

The 898 is a slightly-smaller-screen version of the 998. It features a 7″ screen, the high-definition Side Imaging transducer, 50 channel GPS receiver, and dual SD card slots. It runs all the latest software (Down Imaging, Lakemaster compatibility, Switchfire 2D, new waypoint management tools, etc) and has an ethernet port for future networking. It’s a lot of technological power packed into a pricepoint that allows more people to get into a larger-screen Side Imaging fishing system.
