Just heard on KQ that the “Dome Dog” will not be moving to the new stadium with the team. Hormel has decided not to sign on as a sponsor again because of the prices.

They went on to talk about other foods that will be there, including “walleye on a stick”.

I wonder where that fish is going to come from? If it comes from “Minnesota” waters, and not Canada, we should start a massive protest.

So we should employ Canadians to harvest fish for us? That helps the U.S. economy how?

Oh yeah and I am almost certain that if they “claim” it’s walleye like 80-90% of restaurants that “claim” walleye on their menu’s, it’s more than likely Atlantic walleye

I was at a conference back in 2003. For dinner I ordered the Walleye. Well, it was luke warm, undercooked, and it was full of Y-BONES. I don’t usually hassle the waitress but this time I told her to take it back and I’ll see if I can survive the night by eating bread sticks. When asked what the problem was, I told her I don’t have any problem eating Northern Pike as long as it’s cooked right and I know that’s what I’m ordering. She wandered back into the kitchen and I thought that was the end of it. Then the chef comes out and assures me that it was indeed Walleye, he guaranteed it! I said “Take a good look at me, pal. I’ve been fishing in Minnesota for 40 years and I know darned well what the insides of Northern looks like. Walleyes don’t have Y-Bones. Heck, if you’re going to stick people with Northern fillets at least learn how to clean them right”. He backed down after that

My point is that I’d rather know I was eating Canadian walleye as opposed to tribal fish being marketed as Minnessota walleye. Tribal netted walleye does not come from Minnesota waters, it comes from Tribal waters that neither you or I am allowed to fish. Presenting that product as “Minnesota Walleye” just is not true, and quite honestly I do not like to see anything tribal associated with the MINNESOTA TWINS. As the tribes have been insisting on for so long now, they are not Minnesota, they are their own soveriegn nation. They should not be allowed to sell or merchandise their goods as being “Minnesota” anything.

We fish Mille Lacs, isnt that considered “tribal” waters? I didnt know that the fish the tribes netted was up for sale. It was to my understanding that the fish is to feed the tribes as they are doing it for their fore fathers

During the time the natives are netting, Mille Lacs is purely tribal waters. You and I can not legally fish for walleye on Mille Lacs at the time of year they are netting, even though we are just as much a US citizen as they are.

As for the walleye going to market, only the Red Lake treaty allowed for native harvested walleye to be sold in the US. It is not legal for the tribes that harvest fish from Mille Lacs to sell those fish at all. That harvest is for sustinance use only by the tribes.

If you believe the walleye harvested in Mille Lacs are for sustenance only, you are very trusting. I know of many people that have been approached over the last couple of years and offered “fresh” walleye to purchase. Everyone of the “salesmen” were native people. You go on believing they don’t sell what they catch, I’ll live in the real world.

I’m not nieve by any means, so don’t go trying to put me in my place.

Unless you can give a name, a date, a time, and a place that that happened, its only hearsay, and that is not the real world.

I’m not trying to start an arguement. Every person I have heard this from is a first hand account. Several have reported it, each time with nothing done about it. You can believe what you want. I choose to believe these people, boycott all casinos, and reservation based businesses. The only way any of this will ever change is if all sportsmen ban together, convince the legislators to fight for change, and cut all ties with reservation based businesses.
