I’m looking at starting a couple websites over the next couple of months. I’ve done a little research and decided that I would like to try to design and take care of them myself. I looked into having some local guys host them and they are very expensive. After going to the Daytona 500 a couple weeks ago and seeing the beautiful Danika Patrick I figured I better check out Godaddy.com’s web hosting. I think it looks ok but I started reading reviews and found another one that looks better. It’s JustHost.com.

Now my question is, has anyone had any expierence with either Go Daddy or Just Host?

I’ve been doing some guiding for a couple years and would really like to expand it this year. I’d love to have a website similar to BK’s. BK’s site. If I can’t have that type of set up then I may need to look elsewhere.

I’ve been using Homestead.com website hosting since the inception of my guide service. They offer several different packages and all changes, updates, content and the like are controlled totally by me and me alone.

GoDaddy will be fine for that type of site. I use Godaddy for several sites and it’s been fine. The only time I might use somebody else is if I were running a big eCommerce site with a large database. Try WYSIWYG web site builder, you can use a free trial.

Pretty easy to use, and has some decent templates.

We use Godaddy for our site. I custom designed it, so no comment on the templates…..but it’s fairly easy to use once you get the hang of it. Their service is also really good….get stuck, just give em a call 24hrs and they’ll walk you through it. I was impressed at how easy it was to get someone on the phone!

Domain registration was almost free, and the hosting cost is about $10 a month, which includes an email account.

bluehost is another great company to work with!

If you are looking at making your own website you should check out the wordpress platform, there are tons of predesigned templates out there that can be customized to your own style. And it has an entire dashboard for you to publish posts, change settings, and more.

If you need some help let me know otherwise I could also build one for you at a lot less cost then places around here would charge you. Here is an example of a portfolio site I put together for myself in just a few days. Very Simple, and you can build up much more advanced features form there

Ben, don’t forget to check in with Jakob that re designed my site.

He keeps telling me to go to a regular web hosting company like godaddy, but my isp like most offer a large amount of space for websites that I’m paying for already.

Comcast doesn’t support php but I just have a hard time paying for something I already have.

Jakob was responsive, fast and a guy right here on Ido.

    Ben,

GoDaddy represents a pretty good value in terms of the amount of space, the support and the management tools they offer. You might be able to save a couple dollars a year somewhere else but having done that in the past I learned the hard way with lapses in service that those few dollars saved don’t offset the frustration. As long as you aren’t getting into doing the eCommerce thing I think you would be pretty happy with GoDaddy.

Yeah my traffic has defiantly increased, As long as you keep updating content and creating new posts your site will continued to be indexed. Hooking up Google Analytics is huge in seeing all the information you need relating to traffic and sources.

We do alot of SEO Stuff where I work. We have packages for small business that deal with stuff like this but they can be kinda pricey. What kind of info are you looking for, Im certainly not a pro in the matter as I normally just deal with the front end work, but I could Probably help.

I am also a big bluehost fan – I have also used ipowerweb.com in the past and been happy with both.

Once again stay away from the comcasts of the world for hosting (*cough cough BK) which limit the languages that can be used.

If you have any questions you want to bounce off me – just shoot me a PM.

I’m still trying to figure out why that shows up that way on a Mac on not on a pc using Fire Fox on both.

I did my website through Google Sites, (which gets the hostname through GoDaddy).

So far I’ve been fairly satisfied with it and love the absolute ease of use, not to mention I think it’s only $10/yr… However, it does lack a few features I would have liked to incorporate and really cannot without completely switching everything to a different hosting services.

If I did it again and had a legitimate purpose for a website I wouldn’t use them and start from scratch, probably hosting it myself… but in the mean time this works well.
