Ok so i’m not ready to give up my shad raps but thought Ide try some of these flicker shads. Just wondering if the size 5 is about the same size as shad rap size 5 and 7 also about the same size as the rapalas. Also what size do you prefer for walleyes. I like the 5’s alot in shad rap size but seams that the flickers might be a little smaller.

Caught an awful lot of walleyes the last two years on size 7’s. The size 5’s might be better early season but never seemed to have trouble getting them to hit 7’s. Great bait!

I use a fair amount in both the #5 and #7 size depending on water depth. The hooks have definently improved from the earlier flicker shads and contrary to some I believe they dive slightly deeper then the comparable sized shad-rap.

I give them 2 thumbs up!

I have had great luck on flicker shads both 5-7s. the are a bit tougher to tune but still work quite well. For the price compared to rapalas hard to beat. doesn’t hurt so bad when breaking off on rocks.

Very good bait if tuned well. One out of three will not run out of the box, but if you can get them to run they are one of my go to river cranks.

Love em both.We catch everything on them and other than changing out some hooks they stay together fairly well.I actually runthem as part of my set with rapalas. We run up to eight rods trolling and there are several times they will outfish rapalas in the same position on the set

Great baits, their grey backed shad in either the 5or the 7 was great for me in Pepin this summer. BUT I have had a few that are untuneable and some that have been very hard to tune as well as a few that have cracked, but as stated abovefor the price they are worth is. Nice to have colar variations and a bait for those high risk areas that you know are holding fish!

While pulling lead core on pepin I use flicker shads. Yes they do tend to run deeper than rapalas. For the price they are hard to beat. Mike next time you see Gallup, tell him Ryan says hi

I absolutely love them! Dean turned me on to them 2 summers ago and they outfish similar colored rapalas probably 80% of the time. For the money you can’t beat them.

As already stated you can’t beat the price, they are a bit more difficult to tune, and the hooks stick to everything because of their sharpness. A good alternative to raps. My favorite color is black back and silver sides on the Mississippi. Probably no surprise that it looks just like the shad swimming in the river. Walleyes and white bass just love them.

Sometimes the walleye prefer #5s and sometimes #7s. Obviously you need the #7s to get a little deeper but when the ‘eyes are fickle it can help to downsize the the #5. You need ample supplies of both. Great baits.

Mike, both the Berkley Flicker Shad #5 and Rapala Shadrap #5 are the same size 5 centimeters (about 2 inches) long. Also, the Flicker Shad #7 and the Rapala Shadrap #7 are each 7 centimeters (about 2.75 inches) long. In fact, all Rapala lures are numbered in centimeters. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. Ryan I just talked to Gallup today. He’s starting to come out of winter hibernation now that its almost March and the river is starting to open. We were already catching eyes at Lynxville this time last year. Some time we will have to come up and do some trolling with you we fish the pre spawn up river out of everts but never get up after the spawn.

I have both #5’s and #7’s in my box, dont leave home with out ’em. I know that Dean has a nice assortment of #5’s and #7’s down at Everts Resort. Stop by or give him a call and he’d be happy to have you on your way with just what you are looking for

I’m supprised to see so many people having problems with Flickers running right. I use them a lot and I can’t remember ever having a problem with them.

    Yup, what he said.

The only problem I’ve had was what Sharkbait described with the hooks.

But Flickers aren’t very good baits anyways….you should just sell them all to me cheap. I’ll take care of em for you.

I’ve had the same problem with the tuneing, But they’re easy to fix a little tweak and we’re back in business. I run them at a pretty a pretty fast speed some times too.

I also have to agree that I’ve been very happy with Flicker Shads. I mainly run the #7s and put on a jointed Shad-Rap if I want something smaller. They also came out with a lot of new colors this year. Here is a link:
