My work had told me that there wasn’t going to be much work for a few weeks so I filed. Then they called me in for the day today. I only worked 1day this week does anyone know if this will screw up my waiting week? Also does anyone know how fast your company finds out you filed? This sucks I wish there was work……..I had big plans for new things on the boat this year. Looks like they are going to have to wait. I hope construction comes around soon!

February 25, 2010 at 1:39 am #845922I would talk to your boss that can be a weird situation, he may bank the time for that day until you are back too work so it does not affect your unemployment…… other wise there are rules on how many hours you can work a week it may not even affect your waiting week im not sure on the amount of hours though sorry to here you are getting laid off though i think this will be happening too alot of people soon i am personally getting my waiting week in next week good luck with everything!

If your hours are cut more then 32 hours in a week you are elgible. You can file for unemployment before then. You then have to wait a week after your hours are cut below that. The you can request payment. Go to the website, all the info in on there. I am a pro at it, I was laid off all summer.
February 25, 2010 at 2:15 am #845938Not sure how the MN laws work, but in WI they give you certain number of hours you can work based on you work history. My job is seasonal, slow in the winter so I can draw then. If I worked over about 31 hours in a week I got no unemployment. I was able to draw for about 6 weeks so far, maybe a couple more weeks yet.
February 25, 2010 at 2:24 am #845946Dont go to work or have them bank your hours. I think if your cut more than 32 hours you still can collect. But I have never chanced it!

cupspitsPosts: 308February 25, 2010 at 2:09 pm #846084No it will not screw up ur waiting week because u probably didnt earn enough income
cupspitsPosts: 308February 25, 2010 at 2:12 pm #846086jus make sure u tell them about the hours and how much u made i f you worked another day it would screw it up though so if they ask you to work two days there screwing you tell them to bank them tell you get 40 hrs this should help i have been on unemployment every winter for the last six years
February 25, 2010 at 2:50 pm #846110it is illegal to bank time. when you do your weekly claim it will ask if you worked or not then how much you earned. i think the first 75.00 doesn’t go against your claim then it is dollar for dollar. if you do not claim and they find out they will withhold your bennefits until it is resolved.
mojogunterPosts: 3289February 25, 2010 at 2:56 pm #846112You should have talked to your employer before you filed for unemployment. If you told him you were planning on filing they may have found something for you to do rather than have their unemployment percentage go up. That way they’re happy and you would be happier working. If they already have people regularly file then it won’t matter as much.
cupspitsPosts: 308February 25, 2010 at 3:24 pm #846035really einstien thats why i said talk to ur employer about banking so there is not a problem
uselessPosts: 2February 25, 2010 at 4:38 pm #846161your waiting week you can make up to what you would draw on unemployment, for instance if you will make $500 on unempl. then you can make $499 that week and still count it as your waiting week(if you worked less then 32 hrs.)Once you start collecting weekly you can make $75 without reducing your unemployment, anything over that will reduce your unemployment check. My personal opinion is take work any chance you get it and claim it,it shows you want to work, keeps you in the loop, maybe it will help when things pick up.Granted you weekly pay might change but I’ve never found it to be much different, some instances you’ll make more per week.Good luck.
February 25, 2010 at 5:03 pm #846176Thanks for all the input everyone. I’m sure I max it out so one day wont screw it up. I emailed my boss and told him what im thinking. Ill always take work over sitting at home. The only thing with taking work over uneployment is (I think) they consider what you make pretaxed. So Ill max it out in a couple of days of working and still make less than I would on unemployment. Im a firm believer in taking no handouts so this is a humbling expirence for me. Thanks everyone for the help. P.S. Watch the Political partys get together today. It should be exciting!
