Night Fishing Question

Dreaming about summer today and want to do a lot more night fishing this year. Wondering if anyone has ever tried UV lights or headlamps? I got out a few times last season and realized how difficult it was for me to fish, especially pitch, baits without seeing the line. Seems like if you had a good UV headlamp a UV sensitive or high-vis line would stand out pretty good. Just wondering if anyone’s tried it before I drop $$ on a new headlamp.

Pitching at night is more about felling where your line is and what it is doing. It helps to fish locations you are familiar with. The only light I use at night is a head lamp to tie lines and take fish off. It also helps to net fish.

Lakemaster chip 07 or newer is great for getting yourself set up at night. Much better than a spot light.

Go to fleet farm and get a blacklight that clips to the visor of your hat. makes the line glow like a rope and you can still use your regular headlamp at the same time.

Unfortunately the line only stands out a short way from your boat.

Many anglers use “black lights” and fluorescent line when night fishing. Under the illumination of the black light, fluorescent line glows like neon and makes subtle strikes easy to detect. I wish some of the sturgeon guys would speak up about what line they use.. because I can see it glowing from quite a distance at night.

For myself when I’m trolling for or anchored for walleye or casting for Musky I just use a 12 volt spot light , like you would use for shining deer pointed in the direction I am fishing … I personally dislike jigging in anything less than daylight or with out a clip-on led lights on my hat, and I almost always have Stren High Vis on so I can actually watch it realitively well. The other thing I also do at night is use a heavier jig when jiggin so that I can feel more than see that I am keeping in touch with the bottom.

But as with almost any other subject Googling it also give you a bunch of ideas.

Another tip I think I got from Mike is to pitch those wingdams during the day for a while getting a handle on the flow and jig weight, etc. Than start taking casts with your eyes closed and just work on the feel.
