Now that these have been out for a little while…does anyone have any first hand reviews? Are they that much better than an LCD or Plasma?

I have a plasma and my daughter and husband have an LED. I bought the plasma as it is in my basement in a dark area. With this setting the plasma can’t be beat. Their TV is in a very bright room with lots of windows so the plasma would not be a good choice there. Their LED has a nice bright picture but I still feel my is better – mostly likely just because it is a darker area.

A LED tv is a LCD with led back lighting. LCD tv uses edge lite tube style back lighting. The LED tv uses leds along the whole screen to give you local dimming that side lite sets can not do. But a LCD tv will give you the best non HD pic, while a LED tv will give you the best HD picture. The problem is we have a HD TV but most of us watch non HD channels, so the pic is only 480pi. The best TV of anykind is the one that can make a non HD picture look good. All HD tvs have a great picture with a HD signal.

Dont listen to all the hub-bub about Plasma T.V.’s and light or dark rooms it’s B.S. , palsma’s have a glass front (just like t.v’s have had for the last 50+ years) and LCD have a screen or plastic style front so the plasma is suspected to get a glare. I personally as a plasma and a LCD t.v. owner think the palsma is way better as far as crispness and color seperation. I have my plasma in the living room where the sun shines in and the windows are open night and day and dont have any problems with glare. I have the LCD t.v. in the bedroom and have lost a line of LCD light on the far right of the screen had to cover it with strip of electrical tape. No problems with the plasma.

If you really want the best opinion on a t.v. though you are asking in the wrong web-site, if anyone else here is like me I get more joy watching my flasher in the winter staring down a hole or the rod tip, bobber and depth finder in the summer than watching t.v. anytime.

My 7yo daughter calls it ‘Fish TV’. I’ve taught her to notify me when she sees ‘Arches’…

Here is my first hand review. I went from a LCD Vizio to a Samsung Smart LED. I thought my picture was fantastic on the Vizio! I am 2 weeks into my Samsung and the picture is absolutely fantastic. I have mixed lighting, and have had no issues. The TV senses the ambient lighting and adjusts itself brighter or dimmer based on the situation. The picture is so clear it feels like you can reach in and net Holst’s fish on FSN Sunday mornings! Throw in the internet, Netflix, Hulu and a whole list of other options, and this LED TV is awesome. Now you will need to upgrade your surround sound if you are still using the conventional wires and not HDI cables. My workaround is I plugged my conventional wires (Red, White, Yellow) into my cable box, and the sound is controlled by the stereo deck, and not the TV. I love the fact that I can uses Picture in Picture and surf the net and still watch TV in the small box. Go to Sam’s Club or Best Buy and look at them side by side and you will see the difference.

I agree with you chris I hate to say it but the picture is almost too good and it takes some getting used to. My brother in law and brother both have the samsung LED. Samsung is definitely the top of the line. I would recommend going to a big box store and looking at them side by side to see what you like the best.

A led tv can be edge lit using LED’s instead of florescent lights like a regular LCD tv or it can be “full array” back lit. Full arrays aren’t very common and because of the full array back lighting they are thicker than the normal thin line LCD’s. Either of these the colors are better than the normal LCD. Full array is the best for LCD because the back lighting can be better controlled in specific areas of the picture.

I am with you Chris…I bought a Sharp LED and was amazed at how sharp and crystal clear the picture is. It is almost like the people on TV are in the room with you it is so clear. It is also in a room with a ton of window and we can easily watch tv with the shades open because it is so bright but when the sun goes down it dims so you aren’t blinded by it…..couldn’t be happier with it.

In the reviews I read using plasma in more dimly lit areas and LED is more brightly lit areas was a common theme so there may be something to that but I don’t know first hand.
